Dynasty because the West was weak in the 70’s.
So many "coin flips" which prevented the Phoenix Suns from their first ever NBA Championship. But not re-signing Joe Johnson over $5 mil takes the cake and was in Sarver's control which is inexcusable.

This thread is not helping with my chronic "Suns Depression Syndrome". Can we please get back to the Maluach is Mutombo, Dunn is so good he is untouchable, and Brea is the second coming of Steph Curry talk...

Thank you.

Here’s another one with info I never knew… and just infuriates me even more that Sarver just totally blew the possibility of multiple championship runs.

Apparently, when “courting” KG, we told him we’d have to gut the team around him AND he’d have to take a pay cut!

Man… to go from Colangelo to Sarver to Ishbia has been the cruelest of jokes!

Doesn’t really say who was in the trade but I can’t think of a better fit at the 5 on those teams than KG.

All the more reason to hate sarver. He blew Joe Johnson and kg. Awesome.

From what I remember, the trade for KG always involved Marion and extras. Some rumors had Marion being shuffled to another team than Minnesota but ultimately that's the piece we were parting with. Probably picks too since Server didn't care about the draft in terms of adding talent, he knew what he could sell picks for so I could see him asking KG to eat the going rate of whatever picks were included.

Think it was Marion, Barbosa and Atlanta’s coveted pick.

Marion was holding things up (reportedly):
.
That last scenario, "The Suns, though, are understandably reluctant to part with Stoudemire after he made the All-NBA first team in what appears to be the most successful comeback from microfracture knee surgery that the NBA has ever witnessed." Also that Sarver wouldn't put Amare in the deal shows no basketball knowledge at all. Both guys were similar, so if you had one you didn't need the other. Plus Sarver then refused to pay Amare because he had the microfracture surgery later on. Sarver could have replaced Amare with Garnett and not had to worry about paying a guy big money that had that surgery. It's absolutely maddening the thing of Sarver!

Not sure I’m there yet, way too early to be judging Ishbia. He’s recognized they took a swing and it missed and now he’s course corrected and building with youth and I’m more excited to watch this than KD walking up and down the court. And he’s willing to spend so already miles ahead of Sarver imo! Willing to give him some time and see what they can do. The draft and trades have been pretty good imo. I hated how JJ just didn’t value the draft at all and we got old and unathletic pretty quickly imo. As a suns fan excited to see a new direction with some grittiness, tired of the soft bad defensive teams!

Yeah but the magic was going to be pairing an offensive amare with a defensive kg. That would’ve been the spectacular play that we were all expecting.

KG was pretty brilliant as a scorer in his own right.

I think Ishbia is going to become a better owner. He loves the game, he loves the fans, he is willing to spend money.

Sarver was just a strange headcase.

And I have JC in my avatar for a reason.

I think that it was Stoudamire + (some) assets for KG.

I always liked Marion but him + sweeteners for KG was such a no-brainer that even Sarver would have offered it. Garnett (for Amare or Marion, doesn't matter) was everything that the doctor ordered for that Suns. I truly believe that with him we could have been able to beat the Spurs.

It was supposed to be a 3 way deal, with Marion going to Boston and Boston sending Jefferson to Minny and Marion refused to commit to Boston with his deal almost up and so he basically killed the trade.
