If Denver engages in trade discussions involving Cam Johnson this summer, his preferred destination is a return to the Phoenix Suns, league sources say.

Additionally, Johnson has maintained communication with certain members of the Suns organization since his 2023 departure and holds the franchise in high regard, sources said.

Some predicted Cam would move on to become a star and that didn't happen. He is in year 7 so he is what he is and would add depth for sure but he isn't a difference maker IMO. Now if we could get Bridges back. That would excite me much more.

I think I'd pass. I thought he was a very good role player for us when everything was right but between his frequent injuries and his multi-game struggles when first returning to play, "everything" just wasn't right often enough. If he's looking for a home I'd give him another try but I wouldn't give up assets to bring him back.

Hell no.

We’ve got young wings that need time. Not an oft-injured shooter who never blossomed into what folks thought he would and hasn’t even been that good on a team where no one can focus on him.

I'd consider trading non-core players for Cam Johnson, like Grayson Allen, if Johnson would re-sign with the Suns for a lesser amount when he hits free agency. The devil is in the details.

I doubt the Nuggets want Allen's salary, $19,375,000 player option, in 2027-28 though.

Cameron is about as injury prone as they come and he's now 30 years old. I wouldn't pursue him unless he was a bargain. And if he and Grayson were both fully healthy, I'm not sure which player I'd prefer as I like them both when all is well.

i agree. I liked Cam and Bridges when they were here because the chemistry (with CP3 leading) was good. But they were both among the melters in the Suns 2 or 3 biggest meltdowns. Neither plays with fire or urgency.

Any interest in him is based more on nostalgia than logic.

I mean, if he was a FA willing to sign for below market value, or could be acquired for a contract the Suns were trying to dump, sure. Otherwise, pass.

Cam Johnson would be an expiring contract next season where Grayson Allen has a player option for an extra season so there is that aspect. Both are 30.

The attraction would be Johnson can play some power forward and would be off the books sooner unless he re-signed for a lesser amount when he becomes a free agent.

Everything is not as they first appear, not the trade would happen.

A more likely scenario is Cam Johnson signs with the Suns when he becomes a free agent.

I would never swap Grayson for Cam. Both have had trouble staying on the court. Grayson at least has shot us back into games and put tons of games out of reach. Cam has not even sniffed the number of times Grayson has done that. The more I think about this the less it intrigues me. Those minutes have to be taken from someone, and our younger guys are the future. Not Cam.

Agreed. The only advantage of targeting Cam is that he slots best into the stretch 4 position (IMO) and that's still a position of need for us. So if he's a low cost FA that's willing to back-up Fleming, I'd have some interest. But I have zero interest in swapping anyone for him and his contract.

As noted, that trade would likely never happen as it would save the Suns a year of Allen's salary at $19,375,000, Player Option.

If were to happen though, I'd take a power forward over a guard.

Normally I would agree with you but he is more of a finesse player, has been often injured is going to take minutes from younger players who need it and Grayson is still a better overall contributor.

I love Cam, but not at the contract he will be looking for after next season. I guess I could be convinced to swap Allen for him- both are injured on regular basis, but Cam has a size advantage. However, I really want those minutes going to Flemming and Dunn. As a bench guy, playing 15-20 minutes- sure, but not as a starter,

We miss you too Cam. Never should have been traded.
