What happened to Carlos Correa? How Astros infielder sustained season-ending injury originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Houston Astros got some terrible news on Wednesday when Carlos Correa was reported to have a significant injury, which turned out to be a season-ending issue for the star infielder.
Amid a disastrous season, this injury might be the toughest blow the Astros sustained. But how did Correa sustain this injury? It didn't occur during a game, so how is he now done for the year?
According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, Correa sustained this injury during batting practice on Tuesday. The Astros' star infielder is done for the season after sustaining a torn tendon in his ankle during batting practice.
Carlos Correa tore a tendon in his ankle during BP
"Carlos Correa said he took a swing in the batting cage yesterday, 'felt a pop,' and went down in pain," Rome reports.
This is a freak accident for Correa, as he sustained this injury during a batting practice session. This is some brutal news for the Astros, and it's massively unlucky for Correa as well.
Rome reports the injury recovery for Correa will be six to eight months, which means he will miss the rest of the 2026 season and could return in time for the beginning of the 2027 spring training for Houston.
Correa was one of the better hitters for the Astros this year, with a .279 batting average and three homers to go with 16 RBIs and a .787 OPS in 122 at-bats.

Only Yordan Alvarez and Christian Walker have a higher OPS than Correa this season among players with over 60 at-bats this season.
Correa joins a long list of players on the injured list for the Astros this season, with him being the 15th name to join the list.
And his injury might be one of the more brutal, both in terms of severity and how he sustained the injury.
During batting practice on Tuesday, May 5th, Correa sustained a season-ending torn tendon in his ankle. That's terrible luck and a big blow to Correa and the Astros this year.
