Following its first loss of the season, the Hendricken baseball team was in search of a little relief in its trip to Lincoln on Tuesday afternoon.
Greg Fleury provided plenty.
Coming on in the third inning, Fleury gave the Hawks what they needed most – consistency – on the rubber and with Hawks taking advantage of everything the Lions gave them, Fleury made sure their lead didn’t go anywhere in a 7-3 win.
Hendricken was looking for a bounceback performance following last week’s shutout loss to East Providence, but ran into trouble early as starter Seamus Feller battled a tough strike zone and walked in two runs.
Fleury gave the Hawks what they needed. He pitched himself into a jam in the fourth – loading the bases with no outs – but escaped giving up just one run. Fleury pitched to contact, Parker Boyd made a couple big plays in center field, and eliminated any chance Lincoln had at coming back. Fleury, a junior, threw five innings and gave up four hits and three walks while striking out six.
After being quieted by East Providence, the Hawks’ offense wasn’t an electric factory against Lincoln, but they managed to scrap up runs thanks in part to five errors from the Lions. The Hawks led 4-3 after the fourth, but a two-out Lincoln misplay led to one run, with two more coming in on a triple by Yadier Blanco and a single by Jude Monti.
Cullen Crain led Hendricken at the plate, going 2-for-2 with one RBI and one run. Boyd scored two runs and Dylan Poloski had two RBI.
Carsen Mellen had a productive day atop the Lincoln order, going 3-for-4 with two runs in the loss.
The torrid Townies rang up their seventh win of the young season (7-1) thanks to a sixth-inning bunt by Kyle Desrosiers that brought home Aidan Martins for the game's only score. Martins opened the inning with a single and advanced to second on an error, then to third on a sacrifice fly.
It was the only blemish on an otherwise stellar outing by Thunderbolts starter Ed McClung, who scattered four hits over six innings, with two walks and five strikeouts.
For the Townies, Ben Hallene was all but untouchable, striking out five, with three hits allowed and one walk in the complete-game victory.
Offense was at a premium for both teams, with East Providence outhitting Cranston East 4-3. Max Correiro, JJ Renaud, Jamison Sydney and Martins each recorded hits for EP. Marcelo Acosta, Anthony Pimental and McClung got hits for the 'Bolts.
Down 2-0, the Rams came alive in the second inning as they scored five runs on only two hits to take a 5-2 lead. The big hit was by Eli Merejildo, the No. 9 hitter in the lineup, who singled in two runs.
But La Salle wasn't finished at the plate as they continued to put distance between them and the Oakers by putting up seven more runs in the fourth inning.
On the hill, Alex Amaral was as good as he had to be. He allowed four hits and three runs over five innings, striking out three and walking three to pick up the win.
Jayce Bessette, Axel DaSilva and Merejildo each had two hits in the game with Merejildo driving in a game-best three RBI. While the Rams had 10 hits as a team, they also showed patience as they compiled 11 walks in the contest.
John Stembridge, Griffin Frenze, and Brady Riley each collected one hit and drove in a run apiece for the Oakers in the loss.
Runs were at a premium in this pitcher's duel between Liam Monahan and Alex Milano.
The Falcons' Milano struck out 10 and scattered two hits, while the Clippers' Monahan struck out three and allowed five hits. But the Clippers were able score just enough and hold off a late threat by the Falcons to clinch the home victory.
Cumberland's first run came in the fourth inning when Micah Cousineau led off with a single, advanced to second on a Chase Austin single, then to third, then home on a wild pitch.
In the sixth, Cumberland added a second run when Ryan Harris – who was hit by a pitch, then stole second, then third – came home on an error.
Cranston West wouldn't go quietly, though. In the top of the seventh, Chris Barboza reached on an error, advanced on infield groundball, then to third on a single before scoring on a Dylan Milano sac fly. But that was as close as the Falcons would come.
The Huskies recorded just one more hit than the visiting Bulldogs, but Westerly's timing was better.
After falling behind by a run in the first inning, Mt. Hope answered with three runs in the home half, but that was the end of their scoring in Tuesday's matinee at Guiteras Field.
Bulldogs starter Tyler Falcone survived that initial barrage and settled in to throw 5.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts and no more runs the rest of the way. Reliever JamesHooper came on in the sixth and threw 1.1 scoreless frames with two strikeouts to close the door.
Westerly's lead-off man Luke Gwaltney was hard to keep off the bases, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Kevin Saglio, Jack Parker and Falcone also recorded RBIs in the win.
For the Huskies, RhysDavies was 3-for-4 with a run scored, as was Trace Dubois, who also had an RBI. Will Francis and Logan Dubois also drove home runs in the loss.

There was no shortage of offense when the Crusaders met the Vikings at Cardines Field.
Prout exploded for six runs in the top of the first, and though it took a couple of innings for Rogers to answer, answer they did – scoring 10 runs over the second, third and fourth innings to take command.
The host Vikings outhit their visitors 10-9, despite sending fewer batters to the plate. Chris Rosa, Orandy Bennett and Bryce Cardoza all enjoyed multi-hit games, with Rosa, Cardoza and Colby Schreiber each driving in two runs.
For Prout, Cam Randall, Landon Bishop and Lucas Sheehan all drove in a run, with Cooper LaBranche and Max Richmond each collecting a pair of hits in the loss.
Schreiber earned the win, coming on in the fourth inning and finishing the game with a strikeout, two walks and allowing one earned run.
Oliver Ortega started on the mound for the Kilties and got the win. The hurler gave up six hits and five runs (three earned) over eight innings, struck out eight and walked three batters.
Aidan Silvia started for the Tigers and allowed one hit and four runs (two earned) over five innings. He struck out seven batters and walked four. Nolan Mercer took the loss for Tiverton. The reliever went three innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out five and walking three.
Jariel Echevarria led Mount Pleasant at the plate with two RBIs. The infielder got two hits in three at-bats.
Jacob Chouinard and Tyler Riendeau drove in two runs each for the Tigers.
Andriel DeJesus, Jolihan Perez and Cameron Beaudreau each drove in a pair of runs for the Warrior Pride and Aliezel Fernandez earned the win after striking out seven over six innings, with no earned runs.
BVP and Hope were trading runs through 2 1/2 innings until the Warrior Pride plated five in the third and two more in the fourth to break the game wide open. DeJesus tripled to make it 3-2, then scored on double-play ball. After a pair of singles and an outfield error, BVP tacked on another run, then Perez brought home two more with a single to left field.
Two sac flies by BVP the following inning – hit by DeJesus and Beaudreau – put the game out of reach.
For the Blue Wave, Chris Bernard, Jerry Gamboa and Marcos Medrano each had an RBI in the loss.
Maddux Fredericks struck out 10 and scattered just two hits and three walks in a dominant complete-game victory over the Spartans.
Counterpart Aiden Ouillette was no pushover either, striking out 10 and allowing just three hits and a pair of runs in the hard-luck loss.
The Knights raced out to an early lead, literally. Logan Medeiros dashed home on a dropped third strike in the top of the first inning, and Corey Robinson-Baker stole home during the next at-bat, scoring the game's only two runs.
Medeiros led PCD with a pair of hits (2-for-2) and a walk, and Fredericks collected his team's other hit.
For the Spartans, Stephen Cronan and Liam Shields each connected for hits.
The win improved PCD's record to 4-3 in Division III play, while Scituate suffered its first loss of the season, slipping to 5-1.
Ponaganset 8, St. Raphael 7
Pawtucket 1, Paul Cuffee 0
All-Stater Izzy Sousa made a triumphant return to the circle and threw a gem, shutting down the Oakers in the Saints’ 4-1 victory.
An injury has kept Sousa sidelined for the better part of the season, but she made an impression in the return start. Sousa threw 5 1/3 innings of no-hit ball before giving up a one-out single, then closed the inning out with two strikeouts. She surrendered a run in the seventh before finishing off the complete game that saw her give up three hits, one walk and striking out 14.
A second-inning error led to the Saints’ first run and McKenna Mare added to the lead with a two-run, two-out single in the third. Mare had two hits in the win and Sousa gave herself some help with a solo home run in the fifth inning.
Coventry freshman Kelsey Knutton had a solid performance in the circle. She threw fiving innings, giving up three runs and finished with five strikeouts.
A day after the biggest win in program history, Adriana Jeannenot needed to be even better to win a pitchers’ duel in the Chargers’ 2-0 win over the Crusaders.
Jeannenot had a worthy adversary in Prout starter Megan Gardiner, who traded zeroes with the Chariho All-Stater for three frames. In the fourth, the Chargers used an error to get a rally started and a two-out single by Alana Valuk.
The runs got the job done. Jeannenot threw a complete-game one hitter, walking one and striking out 15. Gardiner had a heck of a game herself, throwing six innings while giving up three hits, spreading out five walks and striking out six.
After giving up the lead in the bottom of the sixth, Ava Lopez and the Sentinels bounced back in the seventh with five runs that led them to a 10-8 win over the Bengals.
Bay View scored four in the bottom of the second to take a one-run lead, but Smithfield took it back with runs on the third and fifth. In the bottom of the sixth, the Bengals scored three runs – two on a double by Hope Myers – to go ahead 7-5.
The Sentinels needed one swing to tie it, as Lopez hit a two-run homer. Sophia Parrillo followed with a double and Mia Howard then hit a single that brought in the go-ahead run. Mei Li Mitchell had a two-run single that added some needed insurance.
Howard mashed all game, going 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Lopez finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs and Joy Matteson went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. GiannahTutt scored two runs in the win.
Myers did some hitting for Bay View, going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Alexa Fredricks helped the cause, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
Lila Leys threw an abbreviated no-hitter and Tess Margolis led a potent offensive attack in the Vikings’ 15-0 win over the Blue Wave.
Rogers didn’t waste time putting numbers on the board, scoring 10 runs in the first inning. Leys wouldn’t need that much help, as she threw three no-hit innings before the game ended via the 15-run rule.
Margolis finished 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Leys went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs and Norah Gardullo was 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs. Alexandra Brown scored two runs, as did Leila Costa and Abigail Carlow.
Delaney King and Abigail Poorman led an offense that took advantage of every opportunity it was given in a 21-1 win over the Kilties.
Middletown did exactly what it needed to against Mount Pleasant, playing smart softball on the basepaths and taking extra bases on every miscue. King had some big hits, going 2-for-4 with a triple and Poorman went 2-for-3 with a double and triple.
Lorelei Elshant had two hits in the win and Riley Sexton handled business in the circle.
Ian Morissette and Evan Morissette each scored three goals and Caleb Williams found the back of the net twice as the Bulldogs rolled over the Falcons.
For Cranston West, Jared Yu scored two goals in the loss.
East Greenwich at Chariho, 5 p.m.
The Spartans looked right at home in this road game, as they showed off their skill and talent from the start and cruised to a 13-1 win.
Ponaganset was the home team, but the game was played at Scituate High School because the Chieftains’ home field isn’t in playing shape. The Spartans didn’t need the homefield advantage.
Scituate eased into the game, playing patient on offense against a physical Ponaganset defense. The Spartans led 2-0 after the first quarter, added four in the second and continued to dominate possession before taking a double-digit lead in the second half.
Jacob Robinson led the Spartans with four goals and three assists. Caden Gurjian also scored four goals and Grant Bailey had three goals and four assists. Brady Scanlon and Noah Bradford had the other tallies.
Otto Pearson scored the fourth-quarter goal for the Chieftains and Jacoby Oliveira put his body on the line in goal, making eight saves in the loss.
Division II
Middletown 6, Smithfield 5
Portsmouth 10, Prout 6
East Greenwich 12, Chariho 6
Unable to slow the Eagles down in the first half, the Avengers revved up their defensive efforts in the final two quarters and Tessa Charello-Ingegneri and Ava Halvorsen dominated for the offense in the 15-13 win.
Barrington looked primed to get a win, closing the first half with two goals from Ashley DaCosta to take an 8-5 lead into halftime.
East Greenwich regrouped and came out as a different team. The defense, led by Emma Pray, locked down and when the Eagles got through, Ella Mercurio was there to turn shots away.
With the defense in control, Charello-Ingegneri and Halvorsen did what they do best. Charello-Ingegneriscored the Avengers’ first two goals of the third before Halvorsen added a pair, with Rell Ambler scoring before Halvorsen added another to make it 11-9 at the break. The offense continued to out-pace Barrington in the fourth – Charello-Ingegneri scored three times – to close out the win.
Charello-Ingegneri led East Greenwich with eight goals and Halvorsen finished with six. Mercurio had 10 saves in the win.
Kendall Blaney scored three times to lead Barrington and DaCosta, Clare Capozza and Molly Reagan scored two goals apiece in the loss.
Ellsie Freitas led the Rams with five goals, Brinley Freitas had four goals and an assist and Morgan Dube scored twice in the Rams victory.
No Portsmouth stats were provided.

Ashton Mak amassed solid stats as he recorded 4 aces, 5 kills, 19 digs, 49 assists and 1 block to lead the Falcons to victory over a stubborn Townies squad.
Both Eli Lopez and Dom Correia were strong in the win, as well. Lopez had 23 kills, 17 digs and 1 block while Correia recorded 11 kills, 25 digs and 1 block.
For EP in the loss, Connor Berndt had 12 kills and 12 digs and Riley Wilson posted 8 kills and 3 blocks.
Caden Pina led the way with 14 kills, Ian Nascimento added 12 kills and Charles Johnson had six blocks in the Purple's win ( 26-24, 25-18, 25 -22).
No Barrington stats were provided.
Jordan Teaway led the way for the Knights in the shutout (25–16, 25–20, 25–20) with 15 kills, three aces and two blocks. Pablo Valdez had 10 kills, two aces and 11 digs while Daniel Colon contributed three aces, 36 assists and three digs.
For the Rebels, Chase Wolstencroft had two kills, 12 assists and five digs. Sean Cantino tallied five kills and five digs.
Strong play by four Blue Wave players paved the way for Hope's 25-17, 23-25, 25-25, 25-9 victory over the Broncos.

For Prout, Cam Randall, Landon Bishop and Lucas Sheehan all drove in a run, with Cooper LaBranche and Max Richmond each collecting a pair of hits in the loss.
Schreiber earned the win, coming on in the fourth inning and finishing the game with a strikeout, two walks and allowing one earned run.
BASEBALL – Division III
Mount Pleasant 6, Tiverton 5
Oliver Ortega started on the mound for the Kilties and got the win. The hurler gave up six hits and five runs (three earned) over eight innings, struck out eight and walked three batters.
Aidan Silvia started for the Tigers and allowed one hit and four runs (two earned) over five innings. He struck out seven batters and walked four. Nolan Mercer took the loss for Tiverton. The reliever went three innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out five and walking three.
Jariel Echevarria led Mount Pleasant at the plate with two RBIs. The infielder got two hits in three at-bats.
Jacob Chouinard and Tyler Riendeau drove in two runs each for the Tigers.
BVP 9, Hope 3
Andriel DeJesus, Jolihan Perez and Cameron Beaudreau each drove in a pair of runs for the Warrior Pride and Aliezel Fernandez earned the win after striking out seven over six innings, with no earned runs.
BVP and Hope were trading runs through 2 1/2 innings until the Warrior Pride plated five in the third and two more in the fourth to break the game wide open. DeJesus tripled to make it 3-2, then scored on double-play ball. After a pair of singles and an outfield error, BVP tacked on another run, then Perez brought home two more with a single to left field.
Two sac flies by BVP the following inning – hit by DeJesus and Beaudreau – put the game out of reach.
For the Blue Wave, Chris Bernard, Jerry Gamboa and Marcos Medrano each had an RBI in the loss.
PCD 2, Scituate 0
Maddux Fredericks struck out 10 and scattered just two hits and three walks in a dominant complete-game victory over the Spartans.
Counterpart Aiden Ouillette was no pushover either, striking out 10 and allowing just three hits and a pair of runs in the hard-luck loss.
The Knights raced out to an early lead, literally. Logan Medeiros dashed home on a dropped third strike in the top of the first inning, and Corey Robinson-Baker stole home during the next at-bat, scoring the game's only two runs.
Medeiros led PCD with a pair of hits (2-for-2) and a walk, and Fredericks collected his team's other hit.
For the Spartans, Stephen Cronan and Liam Shields each connected for hits.
The win improved PCD's record to 4-3 in Division III play, while Scituate suffered its first loss of the season, slipping to 5-1.

All-Stater Izzy Sousa made a triumphant return to the circle and threw a gem, shutting down the Oakers in the Saints’ 4-1 victory.
An injury has kept Sousa sidelined for the better part of the season, but she made an impression in the return start. Sousa threw 5 1/3 innings of no-hit ball before giving up a one-out single, then closed the inning out with two strikeouts. She surrendered a run in the seventh before finishing off the complete game that saw her give up three hits, one walk and striking out 14.
A second-inning error led to the Saints’ first run and McKenna Mare added to the lead with a two-run, two-out single in the third. Mare had two hits in the win and Sousa gave herself some help with a solo home run in the fifth inning.
Coventry freshman Kelsey Knutton had a solid performance in the circle. She threw fiving innings, giving up three runs and finished with five strikeouts.
Chariho 2, Prout 0
A day after the biggest win in program history, Adriana Jeannenot needed to be even better to win a pitchers’ duel in the Chargers’ 2-0 win over the Crusaders.
Jeannenot had a worthy adversary in Prout starter Megan Gardiner, who traded zeroes with the Chariho All-Stater for three frames. In the fourth, the Chargers used an error to get a rally started and a two-out single by Alana Valuk.
The runs got the job done. Jeannenot threw a complete-game one hitter, walking one and striking out 15. Gardiner had a heck of a game herself, throwing six innings while giving up three hits, spreading out five walks and striking out six.
Smithfield 10, Bay View 8
After giving up the lead in the bottom of the sixth, Ava Lopez and the Sentinels bounced back in the seventh with five runs that led them to a 10-8 win over the Bengals.
Bay View scored four in the bottom of the second to take a one-run lead, but Smithfield took it back with runs on the third and fifth. In the bottom of the sixth, the Bengals scored three runs – two on a double by Hope Myers – to go ahead 7-5.
The Sentinels needed one swing to tie it, as Lopez hit a two-run homer. Sophia Parrillo followed with a double and Mia Howard then hit a single that brought in the go-ahead run. Mei Li Mitchell had a two-run single that added some needed insurance.
Howard mashed all game, going 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Lopez finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs and Joy Matteson went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. GiannahTutt scored two runs in the win.
Myers did some hitting for Bay View, going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Alexa Fredricks helped the cause, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
SOFTBALL – Division III

Rogers 15, Hope 0
Lila Leys threw an abbreviated no-hitter and Tess Margolis led a potent offensive attack in the Vikings’ 15-0 win over the Blue Wave.
Rogers didn’t waste time putting numbers on the board, scoring 10 runs in the first inning. Leys wouldn’t need that much help, as she threw three no-hit innings before the game ended via the 15-run rule.
Margolis finished 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Leys went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs and Norah Gardullo was 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs. Alexandra Brown scored two runs, as did Leila Costa and Abigail Carlow.
Middletown 21, Mount Pleasant 1
Delaney King and Abigail Poorman led an offense that took advantage of every opportunity it was given in a 21-1 win over the Kilties.
Middletown did exactly what it needed to against Mount Pleasant, playing smart softball on the basepaths and taking extra bases on every miscue. King had some big hits, going 2-for-4 with a triple and Poorman went 2-for-3 with a double and triple.
Lorelei Elshant had two hits in the win and Riley Sexton handled business in the circle.

Ian Morissette and Evan Morissette each scored three goals and Caleb Williams found the back of the net twice as the Bulldogs rolled over the Falcons.
For Cranston West, Jared Yu scored two goals in the loss.

BOYS LACROSSE – Division IV
Scituate 13, Ponaganset 1
The Spartans looked right at home in this road game, as they showed off their skill and talent from the start and cruised to a 13-1 win.
Ponaganset was the home team, but the game was played at Scituate High School because the Chieftains’ home field isn’t in playing shape. The Spartans didn’t need the homefield advantage.
Scituate eased into the game, playing patient on offense against a physical Ponaganset defense. The Spartans led 2-0 after the first quarter, added four in the second and continued to dominate possession before taking a double-digit lead in the second half.
Jacob Robinson led the Spartans with four goals and three assists. Caden Gurjian also scored four goals and Grant Bailey had three goals and four assists. Brady Scanlon and Noah Bradford had the other tallies.
Otto Pearson scored the fourth-quarter goal for the Chieftains and Jacoby Oliveira put his body on the line in goal, making eight saves in the loss.

Unable to slow the Eagles down in the first half, the Avengers revved up their defensive efforts in the final two quarters and Tessa Charello-Ingegneri and Ava Halvorsen dominated for the offense in the 15-13 win.
Barrington looked primed to get a win, closing the first half with two goals from Ashley DaCosta to take an 8-5 lead into halftime.
East Greenwich regrouped and came out as a different team. The defense, led by Emma Pray, locked down and when the Eagles got through, Ella Mercurio was there to turn shots away.
With the defense in control, Charello-Ingegneri and Halvorsen did what they do best. Charello-Ingegneriscored the Avengers’ first two goals of the third before Halvorsen added a pair, with Rell Ambler scoring before Halvorsen added another to make it 11-9 at the break. The offense continued to out-pace Barrington in the fourth – Charello-Ingegneri scored three times – to close out the win.
Charello-Ingegneri led East Greenwich with eight goals and Halvorsen finished with six. Mercurio had 10 saves in the win.
Kendall Blaney scored three times to lead Barrington and DaCosta, Clare Capozza and Molly Reagan scored two goals apiece in the loss.
La Salle 13, Portsmouth 6
Ellsie Freitas led the Rams with five goals, Brinley Freitas had four goals and an assist and Morgan Dube scored twice in the Rams victory.
No Portsmouth stats were provided.

Ashton Mak amassed solid stats as he recorded 4 aces, 5 kills, 19 digs, 49 assists and 1 block to lead the Falcons to victory over a stubborn Townies squad.
Both Eli Lopez and Dom Correia were strong in the win, as well. Lopez had 23 kills, 17 digs and 1 block while Correia recorded 11 kills, 25 digs and 1 block.
For EP in the loss, Connor Berndt had 12 kills and 12 digs and Riley Wilson posted 8 kills and 3 blocks.
Classical 3, Barrington 0
Caden Pina led the way with 14 kills, Ian Nascimento added 12 kills and Charles Johnson had six blocks in the Purple's win ( 26-24, 25-18, 25 -22).

For the Rebels, Chase Wolstencroft had two kills, 12 assists and five digs. Sean Cantino tallied five kills and five digs.

Strong play by four Blue Wave players paved the way for Hope's 25-17, 23-25, 25-25, 25-9 victory over the Broncos.
