Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin is one of the longest-tenured players on the roster. He was drafted by the organization in 2019 and hasn't looked back. Even in the midst of the Dan Snyder drama, McLaurin is one of a handful of players who stuck around when things got hard.
Last season, McLaurin's loyalty was rewarded with a three-year contract extension worth an average of $29 million per year. The biggest problem McLaurin has (and has had since he was drafted) is that he doesn't have a counterpart to take some of the workload. Sure, there are other receivers on the roster, but McLaurin has been tasked with carrying the bulk of the workload his entire career.
Recently, McLaurin was asked about the wide receivers' room and if the Commanders should add another receiver. He replied in typical McLaurin fashion.
"Yeah, that's not really my job to add or subtract on the team," McLaurin replied. "My job is to embrace whoever they bring in. If they bring someone in, if they don't bring anybody in, I have the utmost confidence that the guys in our room are going to step it up."
McLaurin goes on to discuss how the NFL presents opportunities and that guys step up, "every single time."
"... and we got a lot of young guys who are hungry and looking forward to seize it. With David Blough's offense, we're just going to have an opportunity for guys to touch the ball, move around, and make explosive plays. The more weapons you can have to make plays for Jayden (Daniels) makes it easier. He's a guy who can really facilitate the football."
The veteran wideout concludes his answer by discussing his desire to push the wide receivers room, lead by example, and make the most of his own opportunities. He also said, "Adding Chig (Okonkwo), adding the other great guys that we added to our team. Antonio (Williams), I think, is going to be great for us, and the O-Line- their synergy is going to be huge. It's going to be a collective effort, and we're looking forward to building it one day at a time."
McLaurin is ever the loyal teammate, never wanting to take the spotlight from anyone. He lets his play on the field speak for itself, and off the field he imparts his knowledge and experience on younger players to help with their development. The Commanders are lucky to have this caliber of a human being on their team.
