The Detroit Lions dominated the Washington Commanders 44-22 on Sunday at Northwest Stadium. Detroit coach Dan Campbell's decision to take over offensive play-calling and Washington's historically poor defense were among the talking points after the game. However, one sequence in the second quarter remains a hot topic around the NFL.
After the Lions scored their third touchdown to take a 20-3 lead, Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne was ejected. Replays showed Payne throwing a punch at Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. During the same time, Washington defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw was seen having an animated conversation with Detroit quarterback Jared Goff. Kinlaw would be penalized after Payne's ejection for making contact with an official.
So, what was Kinlaw saying to Goff?
The Lions quarterback joined 97.1 FM The Ticket in Detroit and discussed what happened from his perspective.
"I don't know what he was really saying," Goff said via Will Burchfield of Audacy. "He jumped offside, I told him he jumped offside, he said, 'I know.' And I don't know why he was so excited about jumping offsides, but he was. And that was before they punched St. Brown in the face, so I can’t wait to see Louis Riddick break that one day for us this week on Turning Point."
That's a pretty funny summary from Goff.
We aren't sure that Kinlaw was excited about jumping offside. He was fired up after the game due to Payne's ejection. This all happened at the same time. Kinlaw said St. Brown actually threw the first punch at Payne, and it happened right in front of an official. Video evidence proved Kinlaw was correct.
Here's a video of Kinlaw's "chat" with Goff.
As for Goff's shot at ESPN's Louis Riddick, it apparently came from a past incident where Riddick criticized Lions safety Brian Branch.
