Florida football won’t be playing a real game for almost five months, but fans can get their first look at the Jon Sumrall era this Saturday.

The Gators will host their annual Orange and Blue spring game Saturday in Gainesville.

As some schools, such as LSU under new coach Lane Kiffin, eliminate their spring games, Sumrall is bringing a new format to The Swamp.

A touchdown will still be worth six points, a field goal three and an extra point one, but the offense can attempt a “three-point” conversion from the 5-yard line, and a “four-point" conversion from the 10-yard line.

On defense, three points is scored for a three-and-out, one for a punt and six for forcing a turnover.

It’s a format he’s used the last four years as head coach at Tulane and Troy.

"I look at a fourth-down stop as a takeaway, 'cause it’s a takeaway on downs," Sumrall said. "And so, the defense will have scoring.”

Even though the game will be called “Orange and Blue,” one team will wear blue and the other white. Quarterbacks will wear orange.

“We’re not gonna actually wear orange and blue because that would be ridiculously confusing for two teams being in a colored jersey,” Sumrall said.

Here’s how to follow the Orange and Blue game for those who will not be attending in Alachua County:

The game will not air live on TV or streaming. You can follow the game with our live blog on Gainesville.com/sports/college. It can also be listenened to live on radio on FloridaGators.com and on 103.7 FM in Gainesville.

A highlight package of the game will air on the SEC Network after the game and on ESPN and ESPN2 leading up to Week Zero in August. The official air date has not been announced yet. It can also be streamed on ESPN.com and the ESPN app.

Why isn't the Florida football Orange and Blue spring game airing live?

This follows a trend of most SEC schools. Only two schools are airing their spring games live, and both are streaming and online only. The ESPN family of networks, including the SEC Network, has chosen to air more baseball and softball games. The last time Florida's spring game was shown live was in 2024 on ESPN+.
