Bryson DeChambeau knows only too well just how painful it is to miss out on winning at Augusta National.
If anyone can empathize with Asterisk Talley after her Augusta National nightmare, it is DeChambeau.
Talley, 17, led the Augusta National Women’s Amateur by one shot after 36 holes following superb rounds of 66 and 67.
Bryson DeChambeau has been in a similar position at The Masters, but his poor play on the back nine at Augusta National cost him dearly in 2025, when Rory McIlroy went on to win.
Talley was in total control of the tournament at Augusta, heading into the back nine after she went out in three-under-par 33.

However, disaster struck on her back nine. She bogeyed the 11th before things went from bad to worse on the 12th.
Emotional Asterisk Talley devastated after Augusta National nightmare
Talley found the back bunker with her tee shot, only to hit her ball out of the sand and into Rae’s Creek not once, but twice.
She walked off the 12th green having made a quadruple bogey seven and her hopes of winning the Augusta National Women’s Amateur were over in an instant.
Birdies at 13 and 17 were offset by a bogey on the 15th and a double bogey on the 16th.
In the end, she signed for a hugely disappointing round of 75 and finished up in a tie for fourth.
Talley was in tears as she walked off the 18th green.
She continued crying in the scorers’ tent and when she spoke to the media after signing her card.
However, the teenager showed her maturity by admitting that she learned a few things about herself out on the golf course on Saturday.

“I’m honestly so blessed to be here – it’s a gift from God to walk this course,” Talley said.
“I learned a few things about myself, just knowing it’s OK. Things like that happen to the best of us.
“It doesn’t define me as a golfer. I know what kind of player I am.”
What Bryson DeChambeau told Asterisk Talley at Augusta National
DeChambeau had just arrived at Augusta on Saturday when Talley was finishing up her round.
When speaking to the crestfallen teenager after her round, the 32-year-old LIV Golf star said: “This isn’t going to define you.”
DeChambeau then spoke to reporters and revealed exactly what he told the talented young golf star after her bitterly disappointing finish at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, as quoted by the Golf Channel.
“From the losses you learn the most – that’s pretty much what I told her,“ the two-time U.S. Open champion said.
“She’s going to be fine. She’s going to be one of the best players in the world one day. And she knows it.
“I told her the most important thing is how you handle yourself and how you showcase yourself to inspire others.”
Wise words indeed from DeChambeau.
With that attitude, he will undoubtedly win many more majors throughout his career, and judging by the maturity that Asterisk Talley displayed at Augusta National, she has an extremely bright future in the game as well.
