Feb. 19—HANCEVILLE — West Morgan secured its third straight trip to the Elite Eight on Wednesday.

The Class 5A No. 5 Rebel boys took down Brooks 67-55, getting revenge for their season-ending loss against the Lions last year.

West Morgan will play the winner of East Lawrence vs. Deshler on Monday at 9:15 p.m.

Landon Henderson had 28 points, five assists and four steals in the Rebels' win over Brooks.

"We watched film and talked a lot about their play style and the type of team they are," Henderson said. "We were expecting a lot of what they came out with. They just caught us off guard in the beginning, but we were able to come out with it."

After the first quarter, West Morgan led 14-13, then 29-25 at halftime.

With a few seconds left in the third, Brooks tied it up at 38-38, but West Morgan's Brendon Bradford had a putback dunk as time expired, giving the Rebels momentum and the 40-38 lead going into the final quarter.

"I just saw Landon go," Bradford said. "So, I went up for the rebound and ended up finishing it.

West Morgan then hit back-to-back 3s to start the fourth, one from Colby Jones and the other from Henderson.

The Rebels then finished out the game on the free throw line. West Morgan shot 16 of their 23 free throws in the final quarter, making 81% of them.

"It was the exact opposite last year; they finished on the free throw line," West Morgan boys head coach Bobby Meyer said. "Keelan (Murphy) stepped forward and made his (free throws), and that was a big factor in the game."

Over the past two seasons, West Morgan has knocked on the door of the Final Four but hasn't gotten there.

But now, with the team that stopped them last year gone, the Rebels said they like their odds.

"Coming back this season, we knew we had a lot of returning players," Meyer said. "We knew we had to come through the Northwest, and we like our chances."

Murphy finished the game with 14 points and nine rebounds while going 8 of 10 from the free throw line. Jones added 10 points, while Bradford picked up nine points and 10 rebounds.
