WEST MONROE — West Monroe High School found its newest baseball coach.
Following the retirement of 12-year skipper and two-time LHSAA championship coach Wade Simoneaux, it was announced Friday former assistant coach and West Monroe graduate Jon Michael Kidd will now lead the Rebels program.
LHSAA baseball: Defending champion Sterlington shining in postseason
Kidd played collegiately at both the University of Arkansas at Monticello and Louisiana Christian College. He was a top name Simoneaux recommended to administration when it came time to hiring.
"I think he's a good young man that could handle it," Simoneaux said regarding Kidd at the time of his retirement. "I would back and support him 100% as a part-time sounding board for him if he wanted it."
West Monroe finished with a 25-10 record last spring and lost in the Division I nonselect second round to Destrehan. The Rebels, who finished the year ranked No. 3 in the state, have won district titles over the past 11 seasons.
Jake Martin of the Ouachita Citizen was the first to report on this news.
