Christian Fermin is taking his talents to Knoxville.
The Pocono Mountain West alum and former VCU big man announced his commitment to the University of Tennessee back in May. Fermin spent the last four years in Richmond, playing three full seasons before only playing four games in the 2025-26 campaign due to personal reasons.
His best season came during 2023-24, when he started all 38 games and averaged 5.2 points, 4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game on 57% shooting from the floor.
Fermin also joins his former VCU teammate Terrence Hill Jr., who signed with the Volunteers on April 20.
Fermin rounds out what looks to be a formidable frontcourt rotation for head coach Rick Barnes - forward DeWayne Brown is returning for his sophomore season, and Tennessee also added Loyola Chicago's Miles Rubin and Kennesaw State's Braedan Lue via the transfer portal.
At 6-foot-10 and 225 pounds, Fermin is a legitimate athlete who can hold his own in 1-on-1 post defense situations. He's also a solid rim protector, averaging almost 1.5 blocks per game over a two-year span. That'll be a welcome addition as Tennessee recorded the sixth-fewest blocks last season.
Replicating those numbers against SEC competition could be a challenge, but Fermin could prove to be one of the more underrated moves of the offseason.
