Wes Mendes has been drafted by the Houston Astros with the 57th overall pick in the 2026 MLB draft. He is FSU's first draft pick of the night, with commits Landon Thome and Kaden Waetcher also being drafted.
Mendes had a phenomenal 2026 season with the Seminoles, being named the ACC Pitcher of the Year and making several All-American Teams. The Tampa native was also the ACC Baseball Scholar Athlete of the Year and made the All-ACC Academic Team both years at Florida State.
The lefty finished the year with a 2.81 ERA in 93.0 innings, going 9-1 in 16 starts. He held opponents to a .207 batting average and struckout 125 batters and walked 25. It was a massive jump from his 2025 season, when he was FSU's No. 3 starter and showed flashes, but struggled to put it all together.
He went 7-3 with a 5.42 ERA last season, his first as a Seminole after starting his career with the Ole Miss Rebels. Opponents hit .240 off him and scored 48 runs on 70 hits and 39 walks in 78 innings, striking out 90 times.
