Heading into Wednesday’s Game 2, Wembanyama got good news about next season.

The NBA announced the Spurs will play two international games against the New Orleans Pelicans during the 2026-27 regular season. One of them will take place in Paris, near Wembanyama’s hometown of LeChesnay, France.

The Spurs and Pelicans will meet Jan. 14, 2027, at Accor Arena in Paris and Jan. 17, 2027, at Co-op Live in Manchester, England.

“It’s an incredible honor to make our return to France and play our first-ever game in England, given the strong embrace we’ve felt from the community and fans across Europe,” Spurs CEO RC Buford said.

Will Wemby make triumphant return?

The Jan. 14 game will mark Wembanyama’s third NBA contest in France. The Spurs split a pair of regular-season games against the Indiana Pacers in January 2025.

“This week was amazing,” Wembanyama said of the 2025 games, per ESPN. “I was just seeing my family. I’m not trying to get emotional, but everybody did their job to making this week incredible.”

Wembanyama played pro basketball for four years in France before becoming the No. 1 overall pick of the Spurs in the 2023 NBA Draft.

He hopes to return to his home country as an NBA champion. So far in his first trip to the postseason, Wembanyama is averaging 22.2 points, 11.9 rebounds and 4 blocks per game.

The two-time All-Star and 2025-26 NBA Defensive Player of the Year averaged 25 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game during the regular season. He finished third in NBA MVP voting behind the Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic.

Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals takes place at 8:30 p.m. ET Wednesday on NBC and Peacock.
