Victor Wembanyama has arrived at the Palais Brongniart in Paris for the NBA Summer House.
The San Antonio Spurs posted on Saturday that Wembanyama stopped for a game of chess while he was at the event.
The NBA and the French Basketball Federation are running the first edition of the Summer House at the former Paris stock exchange from July 31 through Aug. 2. Opening night was a ticketed concert headlined by French rapper Tiakola under the NBA Summer House After Dark banner. The Saturday and Sunday sessions are free with registration.
Two courts have been installed inside the building for a 3x3 tournament organized with the federation. The U16 girls' and boys' brackets play Saturday, followed by the U18 brackets Sunday. Group play leads into single-elimination rounds and finals in front of the Paris crowd. Winning teams in each category receive tickets to the NBA Paris Game 2027. Shooting contests, dribbling workshops, and a display of the Larry O'Brien Trophy run across both free days.
NBA 2K27 is the presenting partner of the weekend. Wembanyama was named the cover athlete for the game's standard edition in July, the first player in Spurs history to appear there. Tony Parker was on the French release of NBA 2K16 and Pau Gasol on an international edition.
The Paris Game 2027 sends San Antonio against the New Orleans Pelicans at Accor Arena on Jan. 14, 2027, with Tissot as presenting partner. The two teams then play at Co-op Live in Manchester on Jan. 17. It will be the sixth NBA regular-season game staged in Paris and the 16th game featuring an NBA team in France since 1991. The Manchester date is the league's second game in that city and its first there in the regular season. England has hosted 19 games featuring an NBA team since 1993. Around both stops, the league, the Spurs, and the Pelicans plan NBA Cares programming and Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA clinics. Ticket details are to be announced.
The league scheduled no game in France during 2026. Wembanyama last played on French soil as an NBA player in January 2025, when the Spurs and the Indiana Pacers met at Accor Arena on Jan. 23 and Jan. 25. Those were the third and fourth games San Antonio has played in Paris, after a preseason trip in 2006.
Wembanyama was born in Le Chesnay, west of Paris, and came up through the Nanterre program. He played for Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92 in the season before San Antonio took him first in the 2023 draft.
He is due back in Nanterre to run his chess and basketball tournament for a second year. Four games with the French national team follow later in the month. It will be his first appearance for France since the 2024 Olympic final.
Wembanyama signed his five-year, $252 million rookie-scale extension on July 10.
The free sessions at the Palais Brongniart run through Sunday.
