Rule 5 pick Carter Baumler hasn’t pitched in a week during his rehab assignment in Round Rock, and he may be on ice for much longer after being diagnosed with a strained rotator cuff.
Josh Smith is headed to the IL with a glute strain, and had been replaced on the active roster by Justin Foscue.
The injury comes just as Smith was showing some signs of rebounding from a terrible start to the season.
Wyatt Langford looks likely to miss most of May after reporting residual forearm soreness after a single at bat in a game environment in Arizona.
The Rangers’ impotence with runners in scoring position continued on Tuesday with the added bonus of Jacob deGrom throwing a less than stellar game.
For the first time since joining the Rangers in 2023 deGrom gave up 6 runs, although he did pitch into the 7th inning for the first time this season.
