After a come-from-behind win Saturday, the Webb City 10-and-under All Star Little League fell 11-10 in a game to the Twin City All-Stars in the Missouri state championship Sunday at Sunny Jim Park in Joplin.
Facing elimination Saturday, Webb City made the improbable possible as it entered the bottom of the fifth inning trailing 9-1 against Carroll County. Webb City plated 15 runs in the bottom of the frame to claim a 16-9 come-from-behind win.
Webb City got contributions at the plate up and down the lineup, with 10 players logging at least one RBI. Five players — Baylon Robinson, Hudson Waters, Maverick McMahon, Jude Dalton and Rolen Hunt —drove in two runs each.
“These boys are pretty special,” Webb Coach head coach David Robinson said. “They don’t give up. We’ve battled all tournament, even in districts, and we’re never down and out. That’s why we play all six innings.”
Carson Wolf, one of the Webb City All-Stars, talked about what makes a comeback like Saturday’s possible.
“We are very good, and we have kids that can throw strikes and field the ball,” Wolf said. “And that’s how we can win games. We were battling, down nine, started a rally and came back and won the game.”
On Sunday, Webb City fell behind early after giving up three runs in the top of the first, but by the fourth inning held an 8-5 advantage.
Going into the bottom of the sixth, Webb City was up 10-7 but surrendered four runs with the walk-off run for Twin City being a close play at first base with two outs by Twin City’s Henry Krysl.
Hudson Waters led Webb City at the plate, going 3 for 4 with four RBIs. Carl Epperson was 2 for 2 with three runs.
“They competed all tournament long,” Robinson said Sunday. “They never gave up. We were down in the hole early in several games and they just kept competing. That’s all I can ask.”
“I told them we will be back next year,” Robinson added. “We have to use this off-season to get better and that is what we are going to do.”
Sunday’s starter, Corvin Ruehle, said it has been a great season.
“It’s been awesome,” he said. “Good coaches, good teammates, and we all did really good in the tournament in all the games and stuff.”
Ruehle also talked about what he is most proud of in his team.
“We improved our skill level for Webb City baseball,” he said.

In the Little League 9-and-under state championship tournament in DeSoto, Webb City starter Stetson Lane threw a three-hit complete game shutout in an 11-0 win over SEMO North (Advance) to claim the state title Sunday.
At the plate, Lane led Webb City, finishing with three runs and three RBIs.
Webb City reached the finals with an 18-13 win over SEMO, but dominated Sunday with the four-inning run-rule in.
Webb City 12U
The Webb City 12-and-under team will seek a fifth straight title when they open play in the Missouri state Little League championships Thursday in Columbia.
They will play at 5 p.m. Thursday against the winner of Wednesday’s game between North Kansas City and Twin City.
