MURFREESBORO — The TSSAA spring sports state tournaments is in a weather delay at several sites as rain moves through the region.
The TSSAA softball state tournament at Starplex and McKnight Park are currently under lightning delay of 30 minutes.
Baseball sites at Rockvale, Riverdale, Blackman and Smyrna are also in a weather delay, according to the TSSAA.
Play is expected to resume today with the expectation that games scheduled for May 20 will be completed. However there is a possibility of further delays with more rain in the forecast later in the afternoon on May 20.
TSSAA state soccer tournament is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at Richard Siegel Soccer Complex.
Last year, the first day of spring state tournaments were washed out as thunderstorms forced a delay before games were called. That pushed the tournament back a day as state championship games were played on a Saturday instead of its scheduled Friday finals.
Rain is in the forecast for the remainder of the week, and the TSSAA would quickly pivot to adjust tournament schedules if weather requires it.
