Alysa Liu's 2026 Winter Olympics run has been monumental, as the world can not get enough of the now two-time gold medalist. However, while Liu has gained literally millions of fans — her Instagram account prior to the Olympics sat at 355K, and she now has 6 million followers — we've come to find out that many have been pronouncing her name incorrectly.

In an interview with Newsweek, the Olympic figure skater shared that her name is actually pronounced "Ah-lee-sa" (not uh-LISS-uh), which many have been calling her over the last few weeks.

Not only have fans been pronouncing her first name incorrectly, her last name has also been mispronounced. She shared that her last name which is spelled "Liu" is pronounced, "Lee-Oh" as one syllable.

Fans react to how to actually pronounce Alysa Liu's name

Several online users commented on how people should be addressing Liu, now knowing how to correctly pronounce her name. Some fans sided with the Olympian as not really caring, whereas others shared their opinion on the importance of correcting people to say your name correctly, and she should be addressed as such.

"Girl your name is your name. Force people to pronounce it correctly. If we can pronounce Beyonce we can pronounce your names," one fan wrote on X in her defense.

"I feel like people should respect how she wants it said. If she doesn't care then let it be. Pronunciation, spellings, and dialects change. I feel like strangers are forcing a idea because of a false sense of justice," another fan argued.

One fan is using this insight as a way to pronounce her name correctly, "Wait I've been calling you Alyssa Lu?? Sorry queen I gotchu now."
