WATERTOWN — Watertown and Deubrook Area's boys basketball teams each made statements with victories on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026.
Both teams dropped out of the South Dakota Prep Media Basketball rankings on Feb. 9 and responded with victories the following day in Watertown.
Class AA Watertown (12-3) snapped a two-game losing skid with a 92-73 drubbing of Sioux Falls Jefferson in the Watertown Civic Arena.
Across town at Great Plains Lutheran High School, Class B Deubrook Area (12-4) rolled to a 69-42 win over the Class A Panthers.
Watetown led only 39-38 at halftime before pulling away in the second half. Carter Buisker tallied 23 points, Jackson McClemans 20, Isaac Rehorst 18 and Jack Mack 13. Kaden Decker contributed nine and Dane Stark seven. Mack dished out seven assists and Rehorst six.
Colby Nuttbrock finished with 33 points, eight rebounds and nine assists for Jefferson, which also got 15 points from Kuai Mayen.
Joshua Moberg poured in 21 points and North Dakota State University recruit Chance Schoenfeld, a 6-foot-9 senior, 19 to lead Deubrook Area's boys. Braxton Bednarek added 14.
Isaac Kjenstad had 13 points and Jarret Bauer nine for GPL. Holden Karli grabbed five rebounds.
SIOUX FALLS — A big first half and strong play from Brinley Altenburg led Jefferson to a 59-26 over Watertown on Feb. 10.
The Cavaliers led 10-3 after one quarter and 18-6 at halftime. Altenburg made 12 of 18 field-goal attempts and finished with 27 points and seven rebounds. Abby Horner added eight points.
Watertown (3-12 on the season) was led by Jordan Remmers' eight points. Ellie Thury added six rebounds and Lily Mack four assists.
Watertown's boys and girls each host Sioux Falls Roosevelt in a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 13. The girls are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and the boys for 8 p.m.
Fifth-rated Aberdeen Central handed Mitchell its first Eastern South Dakota Conference loss with a 57-52 girls basketball win on Dec. 10 at Aberdeen.
At Mitchell, the host Kernels topped Aberdeen Central 54-34 in boys basketball.
A balanced attack led the Golden Eagle girls. Lauryn Burckhard produced 17 points, Taryn Hermansen 12, Kamdyn Borge 11 and Kenadi Withers eight.
Addie Siemsen (20 points), Cece Morgan (19 points) and Nia Talley (11 points) paced Mitchell.
Colton Smith's 28 points and 10 rebounds, Owen Raml's 12 points and Collin Weier's 10 rebounds led Mitchell's boys.
Luke Swanson recorded 10 points, four rebounds and four steals for AC (1-14). Bryson Burgard added seven points and Jack Bertsch seven rebounds.
