The New England Patriots made a crucial play at the end of the first half in Sunday's AFC Championship Game.
Patriots linebacker Christian Elliss forced Broncos quarterback Jarrett Stidham to throw a backwards pass that was recovered by LB Elijah Ponder with 2:49 left to go in the second quarter. The play should have gone for a defensive touchdown, but it was shut down after the officials blew the whistle.
However, that outstanding work on defense allowed Patriots quarterback Drake Maye to score a rushing touchdown on their ensuing drive to tie the game at 7-7 before halftime.
New England’s pass rush made Stidham uncomfortable when dropping back. The Patriots' defense forced the stand-in QB to lose 19 yards on the play before the turnover was committed.
