Dante Nori is making a big impact on a world stage.
Nori, a Northville product who is one of the Philadelphia Phillies top prospects, blasted two home runs in Italy's 8-0 victory over Brazil on Saturday in the World Baseball Classic at Daikin Park in Houston.
Nori belted the homers in the seventh and eighth innings to help break open what was a tight game. Italy led 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh when Nori walloped a solo shot on a 3-2 pitch to right center field with one out, igniting a four-run frame. He celebrated by taking a shot of espresso in the dugout, as is custom for Italy.
Nori added an insurance run with one out in the eighth with a second solo shot, driving a 2-1 pitch to right center field to make it 7-0.
The lefthand-hitting Nori finished the game 3-for-3, adding a double and a walk from the No. 9 spot in Italy's batting order. Jakob Marsee, a Central Michigan product from Allen Park who now plays for the Miami Marlins, was 0-for-4 with a walk and a run scored.
Nori, a 21-year-old outfielder, was selected No. 27 overall by the Phillies in the 2024 MLB Draft, the summer after helping Northville win a Division 1 state championship, the program's first. He is ranked No. 6 among Phillies prospects by both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline.
Italy takes on Great Britain at 1 p.m. Sunday, facing a team coming off a 9-1 loss to Tarik Skubal and Team USA on Saturday night.
