Minor league baseball is often a world of its own, and Dodgers Triple-A outfielder Alek Thomas found himself on the wrong end of the type of bizarre incident that could only happen at that level on Saturday.
Thomas took the brunt of a scary collision with the Sacramento River Cats' mascot while jogging out onto the field for the Oklahoma City Comets, sending both the outfielder and the mascot to the ground.
Fortunately, Thomas was able to get back up and play the game.
Here's a look at the video of the unusual minor league collision.

Minor league mascot crashes into Alek Thomas
The River Cats' mascot was riding past the Comets' dugout on a motorized scooter Saturday when he collided with Thomas, who was jogging out onto the field. Thomas had just left the dugout and didn't see — or expect — a giant river cat coming his way.

Thomas was able to play the game as normal, though he went 0-for-4 in a blowout loss.
The mascot, named "Dinger," was wearing a Santa hat as part of the River Cats' Christmas in July Day. The incident occurred at Sutter Health Park, where the Athletics are playing this season as they await their permanent home in Las Vegas.

Was Alek Thomas injured?
Fortunately, Thomas avoided injury and has remained in the Comets' lineup since the collision on Saturday.
Fans might remember Thomas from his time with the Diamondbacks, where he struggled to pan out as a former top prospect but hit one of the biggest home runs in franchise history when he tied Game 4 of the NLCS against the Phillies in 2023.
Designated for assignment by Arizona after an ugly start to the season, Thomas is hitting .259 with a .756 OPS across 36 games at triple-A in the Dodgers organization; he has yet to play for the Dodgers at the MLB level.
