With the Golden State Warriors struggling early and Steph Curry sidelined, Steve Kerr looked to his bench in Game 2 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. After cycling deep through the rotation, Jonathan Kuminga answered the bell off the bench for the Warriors on Thursday night.
As the Warriors attempted to get back in the game at the start of the third quarter, Kuminga helped fuel a mini-run, cutting into the Timberwolves' advantage. During the Warriors' 16-6 run to open the third quarter, Kuminga stuck an emphatic dunk past Minnesota big man Rudy Gobert.
Kuminga drove past Gobert on the baseline before rising for a powerful two-handed jam. Kuminga's dunk trimmed the Timberwolves' lead down to only 10 in the third quarter.
Along with a highlight-reel dunk, Kuminga posted a team-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field in Golden State's 117-93 loss to Minnesota in Game 2. Kuminga added five boards and an assist in 26 minutes off the bench.
With Curry set to be sidelined for more games, Kuminga's impressive performance in Game 2 could help him carve out a role in the remainder of the series against the Timberwolves.
With the series now even at 1-1, Game 3 is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. PT on Saturday in San Francisco.
