The MLB Trade Deadline has come and gone. Less than two hours before the deadline hit, the Houston Astros made a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Astros acquired Daulton Varsho from the Blue Jays.
While many players are having to take flights to catch up with their new teams, Varsho has to take just a walk.
The Blue Jays completed a three-game series at home against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. After the game, they headed off to Houston to begin a three-game series against the Astros. Their first game of the series is set for 8:10 pm ET, and Varsho was traded shortly after 4:00 pm ET. This meant all he had to do was take his bag from the visitors’ clubhouse to the home side.
Varsho may not be looking for a new home in Houston. He is set to be a free agent at the end of the season and could be on the move again. The outfielder was a second-round pick of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He would make his MLB debut with the Diamondbacks in 2020. Varsho was traded to the Blue Jays ahead of the 2023 season. The 30-year-old has played in 99 games for the Jays this season and is having a stellar year. He is hitting .243 with a .307 on-base percentage and .682 OPS. He has seven home runs and 26 RBIs while scoring 39 runs this year.
The Astros are 58-55 on the year, which places them in first place in the AL West. Varsho will be playing center field for the Astros on Monday night, while batting fourth.
