Wednesday was an eventful day for the Washington Huskies men's basketball team.
The Huskies landed the 15th and final player for the 2026-27 season when it acquired 6-foot-7 guard Harun Zrno in the transfer portal from Big Ten rivals, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Zrno is the fifth transfer portal additions for Washington and the fifth international player to be on the team, joining Serbian forward Nikola Dzepina, Brazilian forward Wini Braga, Croatian forward Boris Tisma and Australian guard Tristan Devers.
Hours after it was announced Zrno would be making the cross-country move from Piscataway, N.J., to Seattle, it was announced that UW made another addition to the coaching staff.
It was announced in a news release from Huskies Athletics that head coach Danny Sprinkle hired longtime NBA assistant coach Charles Klask as an assistant for UW.
Klask has coached under a "who's who" of notable NBA coaches and minds. He's been on staffs headed by Jason Kidd, NBA championship-winning coaches Doc Rivers, Rick Carlisle and Mike Malone and Stan Van Gundy, among others.
The new Washington coach's NBA experience spans 25 years. He was the video coordinator for the Detroit Pistons from 2000-01; was the video coordinator with the Orlando Magic from 2002-11; returned to the Pistons as an assistant coach from 2011-13; was an assistant coach and advance scout with the Brooklyn Nets from 2013-14; returned to Detroit for a third stint as an assistant from 2014-18 and was with the Denver Nuggets from 2018-26 as an assistant under Malone and David Adelman.
Klask has been with organizations and/or has helped coached several notable players, including MVPs such as center Nikola Jokic, three-time Defensive Player of the Year Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, among others.
The Huskies will hope that Klask's years of experience and knowledge with players and coaches of various repute will help build some synergy on a roster with nine newcomers, and help break a disappointing streak for the program.
Washington hasn't made the NCAA tournament since 2019, the same season it also won the regular season Pac-12 title.
The Huskies' last NCAA tournament appearance was the second year under previous head coach Mike Hopkins, who was at the helm of the program for seven seasons.
This season will be Washington's third under head coach Danny Sprinkle, which also coincided with the university's move from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten. Sprinkle lead the Huskies to a 13-18 finish in his first season and a 16-17 mark last year.
