It appears that Washington Huskies wing Jasir Rencher has been cleared to return to basketball activities.

In a video shared by the official team account across social media, the former four-star recruit out of Archbishop Riordan High School in Northern California can be seen going through defensive drills, a positive sign for coach Danny Sprinkle's roster after he was limited to just eight games with an accelerated heartbeat during his first season in the Big Ten.

In mid-February, Sprinkle acknowledged that although the 6-foot-5 Rencher was in good spirits, the ailment could be career-threatening.

"Anytime you're dealing with your heart, obviously it's a serious deal," the head coach said in mid-February, while adding that Rencher experienced two instances of the issue, while alluding to the same cardiac ailment that hospitalized Lebron James Jr. during his one season at USC.

Before Rencher eventually underwent surgery in February, which ended his season, he appeared to be developing into a promising rotational piece both in the backcourt and on the wing. He averaged 3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game, while collecting 2 blocks across 66 total minutes of action, and as injuries piled up for the 2025-26 Huskies, he almost certainly would've taken on a much larger role late in the year.

If Rencher can prove that he's healthy and ready to return to action, he has a promising ceiling as a 3-and-D player.

"I told the team in the locker room I was proud of him; he's gotten lost in the details of winning," Sprinkle said of Rencher after a win over San Diego in December. "He's not thinking about scoring; he's not hunting his shot. Everybody else, when you're kinda going through a funk, they think the way out is to shoot and get shots up. He's not doing that, and that's why he's playing really well. All he's focused on is guarding, working on his closeouts, which we've been doing a lot of."

"He's that big wing that he can guard one through four, even fives at a time, and he's capable of making some threes now, too. It's a matter of time before he really breaks out and we really get the ball moving, and it finds him. He's going to be a terrific player, but I'm just really proud of how he's bought into his role, and it's going to help us, and he's going to get a lot more minutes because of it."
