The Washington Huskies have entered the race for the nation's top-ranked safety in the 2028 class, five-star Casey Barner.

It appears that director of recruiting Marcus Griffin has hit the road for Jedd Fisch's coaching staff and is making the rounds through the state of Georgia, as the 5-foot-11, 190-pound product of McEachern High School in Powder Springs was one of several players from the Peach State to announce an offer from the Huskies on Monday.

Barner, who is ranked as the No. 10 player in the nation by 247Sports, is up to 39 offers after the Huskies joined the fold and added their name to a list of programs that includes Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, and many others.

Washington has made a significant push with high-end defensive backs in recent weeks, as Barner joins several prospects, including five-star cornerback Keaton Fields, four-star cornerback Nekhi Lambeth, and four-star safety Jaelyn Easterling-Flores. On film, it doesn't take long to see why Barner sits atop the rankings.

"Violent split safety that can get the ball back," 247Sports' Andrew Ivins wrote in his evaluation. "Flows downhill with authority and strikes with a compact frame...Competes as a man defender and covers turf zone looks...Sees the game better than most his age, yielding sharp angles."

As the Huskies continue to try to establish a national footprint since their move to the Big Ten, earning a commitment from a player of Barner's caliber is no small task, but safeties coach Taylor Mays has proven to be an impactful recruiter since his return to Seattle, which could help Washington's case.
