The Washington Huskies have gone national with handing out scholarship offers in the 2028 class.
As director of recruiting, Marcus Griffin traveled across the country and made a stop at Paducah Tillman High School in Kentucky to extend an offer to wide receiver Avery Thompson. At 6-foot-3 and 170 pounds, and ranked as the No. 66 wide receiver and No. 5 player in the state by Rivals, Thompson has seen his stock rise quickly in recent months.
He now holds 24 offers, as the Huskies joined a list that also includes Auburn, Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt in the hunt for his commitment.
During his sophomore year, when he posted 70 catches for 1,062 yards and 10 touchdowns, he showed off a lot of the traits that Jedd Fisch and wide receivers coach Kevin Cummings are looking for from the position. Thompson thrives in contested catch scenarios, with the athleticism to elevate over defensive backs to come down with the ball consistently.
While he also plays with good speed and shows an understanding of how to box out defenders, his length and athleticism have helped him thrive to the point where his high school offense has isolated him on the outside and hasn't asked him to run a more detailed route tree through the early portion of his career.
The Huskies hold two blue-chip wide receiver commits in the 2027 class: four-stars Braylon Pope and Zerek Sidney, and are looking to add at least one or two more before turning their attention to 2028, where Fisch's staff has already handed out 17 offers at the position.
