As the Washington Huskies continue to build out their board for the 2028 class, four-star safety Ace Leutele is emerging as a priority for position coach Taylor Mays.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound product of powerhouse Mater Dei High School in Southern California is ranked as the No. 256 overall prospect and No. 21 safety in the 2028 class by the 247Sports Composite, and has received interest from all over the country. However, Jedd Fisch's coaching staff has been among the programs at the forefront of his recruitment.
"I'm still open to everyone, but Oklahoma, USC, Ole Miss and Washington are recruiting me the hardest right now," Leutele told Rivals' Greg Biggins.
Leutele holds 21 offers, with Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, and Texas A&M all among the interested parties, as the big-framed defensive back fits the prototype of what Mays and defensive coordinator Ryan Walters are looking for on the back end.
"Leutele is already one of the top safeties out West, regardless of class," Biggins wrote in his evaluation for 247Sports.
"He has a big frame, and it won’t shock us if he grows into a linebacker by the time he’s a senior. Saying that, he’s very rangy and covers a lot of ground. He has high-level instincts and outstanding ball skills. In fact, he could easily switch over and play some receiver because of his ability to catch the football. He’s a tough kid, hits like a truck, and plays a physical game. He can really close on the football, and it’s really tough to find a discernible weakness in his game right now."
The Huskies have added four blue-chip safeties since Fisch's coaching staff took over, adding signatures Rylon Dillard-Allen in 2025 and Gavin Day in 2026, while holding pledges from Jaden Walk-Green and Isala Aisa Wily-Ava in 2027.
