Colton Bower played in just three games for the Washington Huskies last week, but he only needed one to take home Big Ten Player of the Week.
The redshirt junior catcher who originated from North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo, Washington, and transferred to UW after one season with the Washington State Cougars, started in all three of the Huskies' wins on the week. That includes both victories on the road over the Indiana Hoosiers, while he almost single-handedly propelled his team to a series win on Sunday afternoon.
He went 4-for-5 on Sunday, blasting three home runs and barely missing a fourth in the ninth inning, which banged off the wall for a two-RBI triple (Bower also scored on the play after a throwing error). That helped him finish the afternoon with 6 runs batted in and 4 runs scored as he became the second player in program history to hit three home runs in a game.
As part of a 3-0 week when he started, including Monday's win over San Diego State, Bower compiled a .545 batting average and 2.220 OPS on the week after going 6-for-11 with three homers, a double, a triple, 7 RBIs, and 5 runs scored.
On the season, Bower leads the team with a .651 slugging percentage, 4 home runs, and 8 extra base hits, while carrying a .256 batting average and .998 OPS with 13 RBIs, 10 runs scored, and 4 walks on the season.
As the Huskies look to bounce back in Big Ten play after a slow start to the season, Bower's bat will be a key piece in fueling a turnaround, which will begin on Tuesday when UW hosts Seattle University in an attempt to run its winning streak to three.
