TOPEKA (KSNT) – Two area teams are headed to the state semifinals.

The Washburn Rural Junior Blues and Hayden Catholic Wildcats will advance to the Class 6A Girls State Semifinals and Class 4A Girls State Semifinals, respectively, following wins on Monday, May 25.

Washburn Rural’s Emory Hall would score with just 58 seconds remaining in the first half to give the Junior Blues a 1-0 lead over the Manhattan Indians.

Halfway through the second, Rural’s Allie Shroeder would tack on another to extend the lead and secure the 2-0 win.

Dayne Shriver and Ellie Vogel both pick up assists as Washburn Rural improves to 13-6-0 on the season.

The Junior Blues will face Mill Valley in the semifinals on Wednesday, May 27, at 6 p.m.

Hayden Catholic will head to the semifinals after securing a 4-0 victory.

The Wildcats’ Emma Slyter scored twice, with Grace Funk and Avery Becker each putting one in the back of the net.

Washburn soccer commit Reese Huscher had two assists, while Carysn Broxterman notched one.

Hayden will play Bishop Miege at home in the semifinals on Wednesday at 4:00.
