WATERTOWN — The Watertown Area Swim Club Dolphins appear headed for another stellar summer season.
The Dolphins made their only home appearance of the 2026 South Dakota Long Course season by hosting the Too Cool for the Pool meet on Saturday and Sunday, May 30-31, in the Prairie Lakes Wellness Center.
Other swim clubs that competed included the Aberdeen Swim Club, Britton Swim Team, Brookings Swim Club, Southwest Swim Club of Marshall (MN), and the Webster Swim Team.
Forty-three WASC swimmers combined to record 115 first-place finishes in the weekend meet.
2025 LONG COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS: Watertown Area Swim Club takes second, Aberdeen Swim Club fourth in state long-course meet
South Dakota Swimming's summer season continues through the State A Long Course Championships, July 24-26, in Rapid City.
Watertown has finished second in the state meet behind the Sioux Falls Swim Club in each of the past seven years.
Weekend highlights for the WASC include:
Edie Hoftiezer (11-12 girls), Marie Makens (U6 girls), Samuel Hoftiezer (7-8 boys) and Owen Hoots (9-10) each won eight events in the home meet to lead the Dolphins.
Mckenzie McKeever (7-8 girls) won seven events; Thomas Bass (15-16 boys) six; Jada Leigh Wellnitz (15-16 girls) five and Amelia Erickson (9-10 girls), Madison Haslem (13-14 girls) and JB Rathurn (11-12 boys) each four; and Sara Peterson (17-19 girls), Channing DeBoer (13-14 boys), Flynn Erickson (7-8 boys), Cayson Feininger (11-12 boys) and Alex Ottenbacher (17-19 boys) three apiece.
Ten Dolphins won two events include Charlei Ahmann (9-10 girls), Sophia Bass (13-14 girls), Ellesyn Fischbach (9-10 girls), Aubrei Grund (15-16 girls), Charlotte Holien (13-14 girls), TyLynn Wellnitz (13-14 girls), Griffen Gerrish (U6 boys), Kegan Kasparek (11-12 boys), Pierce Mathiason (15-16 boys) and Kuper Simons (13-14 boys).
Mia Feyerisen (7-8), Jade Hermans (11-12), Essence Hinkelman (11-12), Amelia Holien (9-10) and Yenna Malimanek (13-14) also won an event in the girls divisions.
Other boys division event winners were Croby Bass (11-12), Ian Castillo (11-12), Reed Ellingson (9-10), Fernando Enriquez Arellano (11-12), Paul Feist (17-19), Penn Feist (15-16), Landon Hoots (9-10), Dylan Kasparek (15-16), Kellen Lambrechts (9-10), RJ Matthies (15-16), Ian McAreavey (15-16), Owen Mueller (17-19) and Jonah Thorson (7-8).
