The Golden State Warriors decided to give Draymond Green a new contract, despite not signing LeBron James. That always seemed like the most likely outcome, but the idea that Green is worth the type of money the Warriors gave him is a bit flawed.
Still, he got paid handsomely for his stay, though there's some contract language that has raised a couple of flags. According to the latest report from one NBA insider, Green had the option to put a full no-trade clause into his contract.
Despite that, Green didn't decide to do so, leaving open the possibility that he could be traded during the season.
“Under NBA rules, as a veteran signing a one-year deal, Green had a right to put a no-trade clause into his contract. There were some eyebrows raised when the Warriors did not put that in, and that Green did not fight for it to be included. It leaves open the possibility that the Warriors could move Green this season,” Sean Deveney wrote.
Green has been on record talking about potentially being traded by Golden State over the past few years.
He understands that if the Warriors get a player in return that could help them in the short and long term, there's a very good chance he's going to be dealt. It almost feels like a situation we have to see to believe, but he's even spoken about it on his podcast. Perhaps the Warriors and Green both agreed that this is still a possibility and didn't want to run into any issues if a potential deal becomes available.
