Warriors' LeBron James update shows harsh reality of expected outcome originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
When LeBron James announced he was leaving the Los Angeles Lakers, many began to wonder which team he might end up with. Initially, it seemed like the Golden State Warriors were going to be where he ended up.
Going to the Warriors would have been an interesting decision for James, as they aren't exactly a perfect basketball team at the moment and don't have many avenues to improve on both sides of the ball. However, his relationship with Draymond Green and Stephen Curry can't be understated, as James has shown that his personal relationships mean something to him on and off the court.
Looking at what it means moving forward and his chances of landing James, one insider had the latest on where the Warriors stand on that front.
“The initial hope within the Warriors organization and its fan base that James would come to the Bay after making his announcement seems to have faded a bit in recent days, but nobody seems to know exactly what’s going on. It’s all a waiting game, and the Warriors’ front office is willing to wait and see what he decides. Whether he commits or not, the next most interesting question is what Draymond Green, still a free agent at this point, ends up coming back to next season and potentially beyond,” Nick Friedell wrote.
It's not ideal to hear that the initial optimism seems to be slowing a bit, but as Friedell noted here, nothing is guaranteed.
It's not like James has announced he's going to another team or taken the Warriors out of the running. Until he makes the decision, we really don't know what will happen.
