It's time to vote for The Tuscaloosa News Girls Athlete of the Week from March 7-13.
Last round's winner was West Blocton softball's Ralyn Irvin, who won 80.88% of the vote (368) for going 4-for-5 with three RBIs and scoring the game-winning run in an 11-10, eight-inning win against Pelham.
Nominees for Athlete of the Week come from our top performers list the week before. Any sport in the Tuscaloosa area can nominate for the top performers list and, in turn, our Athlete of the Week. Coaches and team stat keepers can send in stats to nominate players to [email protected] by 10:30 p.m. the night of their game.
Here are our nominees for our Girls Athlete of the Week. Voting will last until noon Thursday, March 19.

Tuscaloosa News Girls Athlete of the Week nominees
- Brookwood softball's Layla Steele ended the week leading the state of Alabama with 71 strikeouts so far this season. In a 4-0 win against Tuscaloosa County, she struck out 12 batters. In play over the weekend in a tournament hosted by Northside, she hit three home runs.
- Holy Spirit softball's Addie Jones went 1-for-2 with a run scored and pitched five innings, striking out 10 batters in a 2-0 win against Verbena in the Red & Black Classic at Tuscaloosa's River Run Park.
- Hubbertville softball's Karlee Pollard had three RBIs in a 5-4 win against Brilliant.
- Northridge softball's Mary Henderson pitched a perfect game, facing nine batters and allowing no hits, no walks and striking out seven batters in the first game of a doubleheader: a 17-0, three-inning win against Paul W. Bryant.
