The polls are open!

It's time to vote for the Halifax Health Volusia-Flagler Boys Athlete of the Week for the week of March 2-7.

Last week, Atlantic basketball player Cris De La Pena captured the honors, claiming 44% of the votes. The senior dropped 29 points to lead the Sharks to the Class 4A Final Four with a regional title against Eastside.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal gathers nominees for upcoming polls from across the area via email at [email protected]. Please send a player's name, school and notable statistics for a given week. Submissions are due no later than 8 a.m. every Monday.

To round out the ballot, our staff also picks athletes from scores and stats posted online or submitted by local coaches. Athletes for all in-season sports are eligible.

Voting in the online poll below will close at 10 a.m. Monday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour. Emailed votes will not count.

Baseball​


Jaiden Palmer, University: The senior went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, driving in a game-best four runs and scoring three times himself vs. West Port.

Tennis​


Jordan Anthony, Seabreeze: The junior clinched the Sandcrabs’ Five Star championship with a singles title at Line 4. He also won a No. 2 doubles title with Tej Patel.

Track and field​


Michael London, Mainland: The junior won the discus event with a throw of 42.96 meters at the George Janan Invitational.

Al Pena, Deltona: The junior won the discus and shot put at the Deltona Wolves Showcase, posting marks of 41.12 and 12.28 meters, respectively.

Wrestling​


Landon Dickerson, New Smyrna Beach: The junior placed third in the 190-pound weight class during the Class 2A state tournament. He went 5-1.
