Here are this week's nominees for The Arizona Republic's boy’s and girl’s athletes of the week sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath. Nominees are based on performances in AIA-sanctioned sports the week of for March 9-14, 2026,. Vote for the top selection in each of our polls below. Voting will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, and winners will be announced the next day on azcentral.com and in The Arizona Republic on Saturday. Here are this week's nominees, followed by poll (scroll down on poll to vote):
Nicole Ripperdan, Queen Creek, track and field, Sr.: She won the 400 meters at the Brophy Devon Allen Invitational on March 13, running 54.53 seconds – which is a state lead and No. 8 all-time in Arizona history.
Bianca Hurtado, Gilbert Campo Verde, track and field, Sr.: She won the 800 meters at Red Mountain Rampage on March 13, running 2:11.53 to set the state lead.
McKenzie Hernandez, Anthem Boulder Creek, softball, Jr.: In a 5-2 upset win over top-ranked Scottsdale Desert Mountain on March 11, she pitched five innings, giving up four hits and one earned run. She was also 4-0 on the week.
Trey Smith, Gilbert Williams Field, track and field, Jr.: He won the 100 meters at the Brophy Devon Allen Invitational on March 13 in 10.52 seconds, setting the state lead.
Reyden Stewart, Waddell ALA West Foothills, track and field, Jr.: He won the shot put at the Phoenix Christian Small School Invitational on March 12 with a throw of 57 feet, 10 inches, setting the state lead.
Keith Price, Mesa Red Mountain, baseball, Sr.: In a 10-2 upset win over No. 1-ranked Brophy Prep on March 14, he hit a home run and had four RBIs.
