Nominees from six schools are candidates for Athlete of the Week for the period of April 20-26.
Voting will be open until the end of the day Thursday, with nominees from the coverage areas of the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin, Elmira Star-Gazette, Ithaca Journal and Corning Leader.
Nominees are compiled primarily through results reported to [email protected] or events covered by the publications. Nominations can also be sent by 6 p.m. Saturday to [email protected].
The nominees:
Tully Fratarcangelo, Corning boys lacrosse: Fratarcangelo had seven goals and an assist to help the Hawks to a 21-2 triumph against Union-Endicott. He added a goal in a 9-6 win against Horseheads.
Kristen Johnston, Lansing girls track & field: Johnston won the high jump with a top effort of 4 feet, 9 inches and she finished first in the triple jump with a best effort of 34 feet, 9.75 inches at the Dan Fravil Memorial Ithaca Relays.
Cate Lambert, Elmira softball: Lambert crushed two home runs and drove in four runs to lead the Express to an 8-1 victory over Union-Endicott. She went 6-for-13 during the week.
Alexa Lese, Horseheads girls lacrosse: Lese scored the winning goal in the Blue Raiders' 12-11 win over Corning, capping a two-goal, four-assist performance. That followed two goals and five assists in a 16-1 win over Elmira.
Zappy Moss, Ithaca boys track & field: Moss cleared 14 feet in the pole vault to win the event at the Dan Fravil Memorial Ithaca Relays.
Ben Tanton, Vestal baseball: Tanton pitched a five-inning perfect game in a 14-0 victory over Johnson City. He struck out 11 of the 15 batters he faced and went 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs and an RBI. In two other wins over Johnson City last week, Tanton was a combined 5-for-7 with five RBIs.

Addison Makowski of the Deposit-Hancock softball team was voted Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 19.
Makowski received 62.7% of the 6,825 votes. Corning softball player Emilia Smith was runner-up with 29.9% of the vote.
Makowski pitched a five-inning perfect game in a 15-0 win over Walton/Delhi, adding a 2-for-3 day at the plate with two RBIs. In a 16-0 win over Harpursville, she went 2-for-3 with a triple, double, three runs and two RBIs. She followed with a five-inning four-hitter with 13 strikeouts in a 13-0 win over Elmira to go with a home run and two RBIs.
