The summer is offseason for high school sports, making it the perfect time to reflect on the big year area teams and athletes had over the fall, winter and spring seasons.
The Gardner News has already looked at the Moment of the Year and Coach of the Year, and now it's time to check out which team reigns supreme.
These are the top teams up for Team of the Year. They were chosen as nominees for their success, taking into consideration factors such as final record, participation in the state tournament and team or individual accomplishments.
Check out the top nine teams that made the poll. Vote for which you think was the best of Gardner-area sports for 2025-26. The poll will run until noon on August 17.
The Warriors had a successful season this fall. They finished 7-4 and were second in Mid-Wach D standings. They earned the No. 15 seed in the Div. 8 state tournament and fell in the quarterfinals to Lee. Senior defensive end Brandon Rene was a major competitor, earning 73 tackles 5.5 sacks in the position, which was new to him this season. He earned Mid-Wach All Star honors, was named the Div. 8 All-Star Team Defensive MVP and also won The Gardner News Football Player of the Year.
Quabbin field hockey earned a 16-4-1 record, were Mid-Wach B League Champions and earned the No. 7 seed in the Div. 4 state tournament. They made a run to the Elite Eight before being knocked out by eventual state champion, Dennis-Yarmouth. Maria Hamm, Makenzie Casey and Abby Rogowski led the team from all aspects on the field.
The Wildcats have been consistent over the past several years on the soccer field. This fall, they were 15-3-1, second in Mid-Wach D and advanced to the Elite Eight in the state tournament. Senior Cam Gamache led the league in scoring with 20 goals and 14 assists. Sophomore Gabe Carvalho contributed 17 goals and 7 assists.

Monty Tech had a strong year, finishing 12-6 and third in the newly formed CMAC E league. They earned seven shutouts, had a 3.6 goals scored average and qualified for the Div. 3 state tournament. Freshman Addison Boudreau led the team in scoring with 23 goals and 11 assists to land second in league scoring standings and seventh in all of Central Mass.
The Warriors had a breakout season this winter after earning their first winning season since 2020. With a final record of 18-4, they qualified for both the Clark Tournament and the state tournament. Senior Max Kauffman cemented his name in the record books by becoming a 1,000-point scorer.
Oakmont girls basketball had a major goal on their list going into the winter: win the Clark Tournament- and they did just that. They earned the one seed and became the large school bracket champions. They finished their season 15-7 and earned a spot in the state tournament as well. Olivia Martin, Lucie Horgan, Jada LeBlanc and Allie McLaughlin led the team as captains.

Gardner has improved each season since the varsity baseball program was reinstated three years ago. They were 11-7, qualified for the postseason and won their first playoff game in 13 years. Andrew Beauregard led on the mound with a 7-2 record and 2.57 ERA. Cam Gamache has a .634 batting average, 33 hits, 24 RBIs and broke the school record for bases stolen with 46.
The Warriors were 15-6 this spring, landing at second in Mid-Wach D standings and earned the No. 19 seed in the Div. 4 state tournament. Gianna Manca led with a .586 batting average, 36 runs and 28 RBIs.
Oakmont had another successful spring on their quest for their ultimate goal of a state championship. Though they fell short of that, they still had plenty of strong moments. They were 16-4 and second in Mid-Wach B and earned the No. 10 seed in the Div. 3 tournament. Quin Buckley and Brayden Nally both surpassed 200 career points, Jack Norris accomplished 800 career faceoff wins and Silas Roy was named a USA Lacrosse All-American.
