The 2026 high school track and field season has wrapped up with the completion of the Arizona Interscholastic Association State Championships at Mesa Community College. There were breathtaking performances this year on the track and in the field, with state records and all-time efforts. The 2028 class features promising athletes who could be breaking state records in the next couple of years.

Here are The Arizona Republic’s top 10 sophomore girls rankings from the 2026 season, athletes who could stand out in the 2026-27 school year. Vote in our poll for the top overall sophomore. (Print readers can find the poll with this story online at azcentral.com/sports/high-schools.)

Top 10 2026 sophomore girls track and field rankings​


1. Ava Davis, Goodyear Millennium, sprints

Davis was undefeated in the 200 meters. Only underclassmen who won an AIA state title. Also finished as the AIA runner-up in the 100, finishing with a season best of 11.80. She joined rare company, breaking 24 seconds in the 200 (23.76) to move up to No. 9 all-time in state history.

2. Peyton Rae-Isaac, Waddell Canyon View, sprints

She was the only one in her class in Arizona to break 56 seconds in the 400, running 55.29 to finish sixth at the AIA Championships. Showed impressive range, with a 25.32 in the 200 and 2:19.13 in the 800.

3. Kiara Perkins, Phoenix Mountain Pointe, jumps

The best jumper in her grade and it isn’t close. Her mark of 37 feet, 9.25 inches in the triple jump was almost a full two feet ahead of the next-ranked athlete. Perkins is No. 7 all-time in state history for sophomores.

4. Tziporah Korto, Waddell ALA West Foothills, sprints

Expanded her range to the 400, running 12.06 in the 100, 24.41 in the 200 and 56.66 for the 400. She made the AIA Championships in all three events, one of only two athletes in the state to qualify in each sprint.

5. Mya Brown, Queen Creek Casteel, jumps

Hit a personal best of 18-6 in the long jump. She was the only underclassman to qualify for the AIA Championships in the long jump.

6. Brinley Sessions, Queen Creek, multi-events

Led her class in the 100-meter hurdles (15.12) and the pole vault (11-9). The pole vault is her strongest event, where she qualified for the AIA Championships. No other sophomore in the state went over 11-1.

7. Cera Hoggard, Cottonwood Mingus Union, throws

Led her grade in the discus with a throw of 128-11, which she tossed to win the Division II state title. Finished sixth at the AIA Championships.

8. Deztany Toyota-Villalobos, Sierra Vista Buena, sprints

The flag football star showed off her speed, breaking 12 seconds in the 100 (11.94) and 25 in the 200 (24.44). Qualified for both events at the AIA Championships.

9. Alaya Felix, Gilbert Williams Field, throws

Had a big breakthrough in the shot put, adding nearly four feet to her personal best. Ended the season at 37-6.5.

10. Emerson Butler, Phoenix Country Day, distance

The Division IV state runner-up in cross-country put together a strong track season, running 10:51.66 in the 3,200 to lead her class. She finished fourth at the AIA Championships.
