The spring sports playoffs are in full swing throughout the state of Georgia, and Savannah area teams and athletes are focused on trying to peak at the perfect time of the season.
The Effingham County baseball team continued its winning ways with a sweep of East Paulding, while Savannah Christian and Calvary Day also advanced to the second round of the state baseball playoffs.
In track and field, Mmekom Inyang of Richmond Hill continued to impress by winning three events at the Region 1-6A meet.
The Benedictine track and field team was also in postseason form as the Cadets won the Region 1-4A title for their sixth straight region crown, while the Benedictine lacrosse team won its sixth consecutive region title.
The Savannah Arts girls and Savannah Country Day girls were among a group of Savannah area soccer teams advancing to the second round of the playoffs.

The senior ran a personal best time of 14.06 to win the Region 1-6A 100-meter hurdles title, and had another PR to take home the gold in the 300-meter hurdles, setting another school record with a personal best time of 44.06. She also won the region shot put title with a throw of 42-2.25.
The senior drove in the go ahead runs in a 3-1 playoff win over East Paulding as he went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. In the second game, Wells went 2 for 3 with a run and four RBIs in a 13-5 victory as the Rebels advanced to the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.
The junior, who recently announced his commitment to play football at Notre Dame, won Region 1-4A track and field titles in the 100 meters (10.79), the 200 meters (22.23), while running a leg on BC's winning 4x100 meter relay team (42.67) and the 4x200 relay squad that also won a region crown in 1:27.92 as the Cadets won their sixth straight Region title (the event wasn't held in 2020 due to COVID-19).
The junior had three goals and three assists in a playoff win over Hardaway.
The senior earned the pitching win in the opening game of a playoff sweep of St. Francis as he fanned eight batters in five innings of work. In the second game, he went 1 for 2 with a home run, a pair of walks, three runs and three RBIs.
The sophomore netted three goals and assisted on another as the Cadets beat Richmond Hill 7-3 to win the region championship.
The senior earned the win with a complete game in the 3-1 victory over East Paulding. He allowed six hits and an earned run in seven innings as he improved to 7-0 on the season with a 2.27 ERA.
The senior catcher went 3 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBIs in a playoff loss to NW Whitfield.
The sophomore won the Region 1-4A title in the 1600 meters (4:29.66), the 3200 meters (10:27.22), while finishing third in the 800 meters.
The senior was the boys High Point Award winner in the Area 1 Private Meet at Savannah Christian as he won the 110-meter hurdles (15.49), the 300 hurdles (43.56), while finishing second in the high jump and discus. He has signed to play football at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
The junior won the Region 1-6A title in the 300 hurdles (37.11) and was second in the 110 hurdles in 14.23. His best time of 36.55 in the 300 hurdles ranks sixth in the country this year.
The senior earned the pitching win in the first game of a sweep of Mt. Pisgah as he struck out eight batters over four innings, while going 1 for 3 with an RBI. In the second game, Powell went 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI.
The sophomore was the girls High Point Award winner in the Area 1 Private Meet at Savannah Christian as she won the 800 meters and 1600 meters, while finishing sixth in the 3200 meters and second in the 400 meters.
The sophomore won the Region 1-6A title in the 1600 meters (4:20.25) and the 800 meters (1:57.57) and was third in the 3200 meters (9:34.50).
The senior scored a hat trick in a playoff win over Christian Heritage.
