The high school sports season is winding down, but several highlight performances still are making for a memorable spring.
All-state track and field performances, baseball heroics and a sectional medalist round all happened in a span of four days.
But which performance was the best?
That's up to you to decide.
Below are the nominees for Ivy Tech Journal & Courier male and female athletes of the week for June 3-8.
Fans and readers can vote an unlimited amount of times until Sunday at noon. Winners will be announced on Monday morning.
∎ Eli Barnes, Rossville, baseball: The senior pitched a complete game shutout, allowing six hits and striking out eight in the Hornets' 3-0 victory over Riverton Parke that led Rossville to it first regional championship since 2019.
∎ Zion Clopton, Harrison, track: The sophomore hurdler earned all-state honors in two events at the IHSAA boys track and field state finals. Clopton placed sixth in the 300-meter hurdles in 38.24 seconds and eighth in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.49.
∎ Phillip Ferger, McCutcheon, golf: The sophomore carded a 72 at Battle Ground Golf Club on Monday to earn individual sectional medalist honors and lead the Mavericks to a runner-up finish.
∎ Isaiah Hopkins, Central Catholic, baseball: The junior catcher scored two runs, including the game winner, in the Knights' 3-2 win over Lapel. Hopkins led off the bottom of the seventh in a tie game with a triple and later scored on a sacrifice fly to win a regional championship.
∎ Ashley Caplinger, Faith Christian, track: The junior became the first Faith Christian state medalist when she placed eighth in the 800 meters at the girls IHSAA state finals with a time of 2:11.75.
∎ Olivia Dahlenburg, North White, track and field: The junior high jumper placed highest among local athletes at the girls IHSAA state finals with a height of 5 feet, 6 inches. The jump landed Dahlenburg sixth on the podium.
∎ Kynlee Dunbar, West Lafayette, track and field: After clearing 11 feet to place fifth in the Lafayette Jeff Regional, the senior added three more inches to her height at the IHSAA state finals, placing ninth after clearing 11-3 to outperform her No. 12 seed.
∎ Eva Stokes, Harrison, track and field: The junior thrower competed in both shot put and discus at the IHSAA state finals and took home a pair of top 12 finishes. Stokes earned all-state honors with a mark of 138 feet, 7 inches to place seventh in discus.
