Baseball and softball standouts deep in the postseason make up this week's finalists for the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week.

The Globe-News is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week each week.

Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close on Thursday and the winners will be announced thereafter.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. each Saturday and can be submitted through email at [email protected].

Please include statistics from the week's games and any pertinent information or honors.

This Week's Finalists​


• Alakai Carrillo, West Plains baseball — Carrillo notched four hits and four RBIs in the series and had a double in the Game 3 clincher of the Class 4A Division I regional final series against Mineral Wells.

• Aaliyah Chairez, Dumas softball — Chairez went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple in Game 3 of the Class 4A Division I state semifinals against Prosper Richland.

• Star Cortes, Dumas softball — Cortes had four hits, three doubles and three RBIs for the Demonettes in their Class 4A Division I state semifinal series with Prosper Richland.

• Bo Cowan, Gruver baseball — Cowan was 3 for 3 with two RBIs in Game 2 of the Class 2A Division II regional final series against Ropes.
