The winter season has concluded, and The Gardner News took a look at the highlights for Gardner-area teams. From big milestones, hard-fought wins and all the best moments in between, area teams have plenty to be proud of.

Now, it's time to acknowledge the individual athletes that shined and made an impact for their programs.

Check out the nominees for The Gardner News Girls Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year and vote for who you think should be the winner.

Reader votes will make up 25% of the tally, with Sports Reporter Cait Kemp making up the rest of the vote.

The nominees​

Megan Bettez, Gardner​


Bettez continued to be a standout for the Wildcats in her sophomore season. She was ninth in the 2 mile at the MIAA Div. 5 state championship and was part of Gardner's 4x800 team that placed seventh. Bettez also earned the team MVP award for her contributions to the program.

Abi Falconi, Quabbin​


Falconi was one of the strongest competitors for the Panthers this winter. She was one of two Quabbin athletes to compete and place at the New England Championship, finishing 22nd in the shot put at the meet. In the same event, she was sixth at the Meet of Champions and third at the MIAA Div. 5 state championship. At states, she also found success in the 300 meter (fourth) and 55 meter (sixth).

Ruby Heagy, Oakmont​


Heagy had a strong showing at the MIAA Div. 4 state championship this season, placing fourth in the 600 meter as well as contributing to the eighth-place 4x400 relay team.

Addysen Pratt, Narragansett​


As just a freshman, Pratt has shined for the Warriors. She was fourth in the 2 mile at the Mid-Wach D league championship and was part of the third-place relay team as well.
