The light are on, the laces tied.

High school basketball season is officially back in the Gainesville-area.

The area's top finisher — Gainesville High — is a massive state of transition with a new coach and the departure of Jayden Terry and Jamison Caldwell. Buchholz has some key pieces, but the Bobcats remain young. Newberry is a district champion as well and hungry to advance.

In Rural, Willie Powers brings back most of Williston's core, and Hawthorne has a new coach in Shelia Jackson with Cornelius Ingram's retirement.

Enough talk about what to expect, it's time to determine who is the best of the best. Below is a poll to decide the best girls basketball player in the Gainesville area. There are 16 nominees to choose from. The poll is open until Friday at 4 p.m., and you can vote as many times as you'd like, so please share this poll with friends and family.

Good luck to all!
