With the 2025-26 high school school year in the books, it’s the perfect time to look back at the top performances among local teams that reached the highest levels of success.

The SouthCoast featured three state championship teams and a pair of state finalists.

The candidates for our 2025-26 Boys High School Team of the Year excelled on the field, court and course, bringing glory to their towns and forming lifelong memories.

But only one can bring home one more title.

Here are the nominees for The Standard-Times/SouthCoast High School Boys Team of the Year.

Voting will conclude at 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 19.


Fairhaven football​


In their third straight state finals appearance at Gillette Stadium, the Blue Devils defeated Norwell, 28-14, to capture the Div. 6 Super Bowl for the second time in the past three years.

GNB Voc-Tech soccer​


After winning just 5 games in 2024, the Bears enjoyed quite the turnaround as they won South Coast Conference and State Vocational Large School championships in addition to making the program’s first-ever state final appearance, losing to Norwell, 1-0, in the Div. 3 title game.

Old Rochester golf​


With only two of the team’s top four golfers back, Old Rochester enjoyed a perfect 15-0 season and made a clean sweep of the big meets, winning the South Coast Conference, South Sectional and Div. 3 state championships.

Wareham basketball​


With a thrilling 80-73 comeback win over defending state champion Georgetown in the Div. 4 state final, the Vikings captured their third state championship in the past four years.

Apponequet baseball​


After opening the regular season 11-0, the Lakers won the South Coast Conference Blue Division championship and made a historic trip to the baseball program’s first-ever state final, where Apponequet lost, 2-1, to Middleboro in the Div. 3 title game.

Our team of the year stories are meant as a way to highlight local high school athletes in the area. Making the list is an achievement in itself. Congratulations to all our athletes.
