The week of May 3-9 was another banner week for female high school athletes from the Ames area.
It was a full week of conference track and field meets featuring Ames-area schools. The Ames girls track and field team competed at the Iowa Alliance Conference meet, the Ballard and Gilbert girls at the Raccoon River Conference meet, the Collins-Maxwell and Colo-NESCO girls at the Iowa Star Conference meet and the Nevada and Roland-Story girls at the Heart of Iowa Conference meet.
There were also several thrilling girls golf meets and soccer games involving teams from the Ames area.
Here are the Ames Tribune female Athlete of the Week nominees for the week of May 3-9. AmesTrib.com readers vote to determine the winner, who will be announced at the end of the week.
Hatcher was dominant in helping Ames win the Iowa Alliance Conference girls track meet on May 5 at Marshalltown.
Hatcher won the long jump and 100-meter hurdle races, and she placed second in the open 200 for the Little Cyclones. Hatcher jumped 16 feet, 9.5 inches in the long jump, she broke 15 seconds in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.99 and she clocked in at 25.96 in the 200.
Helgeson won the 100 hurdles and she helped Roland-Story take first in the girls shuttle hurdle relay at the Heart of Iowa Conference co-ed track meet on May 7 at Jefferson.
Helgeson won the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.12 seconds. She anchored Roland-Story to a victorious time of 1:10.78 in the girls shuttle hurdle.
Lohrbach was far above the rest of the field at the Turk Bowman Invitational girls golf meet on May 5 at the Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.
Lohrbach was the individual medalist in helping Gilbert cruise to the team title. She shot an even par 73 over 18 holes to win medalist by eight strokes over her twin sister Ella.
Shoen anchored Ballard to a school-record time in the girls 4x400 relay at the Raccoon River Conference co-ed track and field meet on May 6 at Adel.
Shoen helped the Bombers break the school mark in the 4x400 by winning a conference title in the event with a 4:06.54 showing. She also placed fifth in the 400 hurdles individually with a 4:05.64 showing.
Borwick helped the Nevada girls soccer team take down Boone by a 3-1 score on May 4 at Nevada.
Borwick took part in two goals to help the Cubs improve to 5-4-1 on the season. She scored one goal and distributed one assist.
