American ski star Lindsey Vonn said on Friday she has undergone another operation on lower left leg fractures she sustained in the Olympic downhill race on February 8.
Vonn said on Instagram that the latest surgery lasted more than six hours and "required a lot of plates and screws to put back together.
"With the extent of the trauma, I’ve been struggling a bit post op and have not yet been able to be discharged from the hospital just yet ... almost there. Baby steps," she said.
Vonn added: "Will explain the injury and what it all means soon."
The 41-year-old underwent multiple operations in Italy before flying back to the United States on Monday. Several operations are said to be normal for these kind of injuries.
The 2010 downhill gold medallist Vonn came out of retirement last season with the aim of winning another Olympic medal and arrived in Italy as downhill World Cup leader.
She competed in Cortina d'Ampezzo with a left knee cruciate ligament tear she sustained in a crash nine days earlier. Her Olympic race lasted only 13 seconds until she clipped a gate and fell heavily.
