Alpine skiing star Lindsey Vonn didn't completely rule out a comeback to the sport after suffering a horrific injury at the Milan/Cortina Olympics in February.

"I already retired for six years. Like, I know what it’s like to not be a ski racer anymore. It’s just that ski racing is something I love to do. And I had so much fun this season that - and I never got to - I never got a final run," Vonn told broadcasters NBC in an interview aired on Tuesday.

"I think it leaves a door slightly open to, I don’t know, maybe I would do one more race to say goodbye or maybe I’ll race again. It might be fun to do one more run. We’ll see."

The 2010 downhill Olympic gold medallist came out of retirement in the 2024-25 with the aim of winning another Olympic medal and arrived in Italy as downhill World Cup leader.

She competed in Cortina d'Ampezzo with a left knee cruciate ligament tear she sustained in a crash nine days earlier. Her Olympic race on Ferbuary 8 lasted only 13 seconds until she clipped a gate and fell heavily.

She suffered a complex tibia fracture and said doctors saved her leg from an amputation.

Asked directly whether she was entertaining the idea of maybe another comeback, she said: "I mean, much to my family’s dismay, yes. I think it’s just something that - I mean, I’ve been, like I said, so isolated and not able to really live life outside of skiing."

Vonn is undergoing extensive physical therapy and said that "right now I can’t say what the future holds because I can’t - my mind can’t get there yet."
