Von Miller made headlines earlier this week when he said on his podcast that he'd like to return to the Denver Broncos for a Super Bowl run in 2026. Miller's clearly serious about it, as it's not the first time he's campaigned for a return.
Another headline-worthy nugget from Miller's recent "Free Range" podcast episode was that he believes he could have made a key play to save Denver's chances of reaching the Super Bowl this season.
With just under two minutes remaining in the AFC Championship game, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye faked a handoff, rolled left and stiff-armed outside linebacker Jonah Elliss on his way to picking up a first down to clinch the game. After the win, Maye said the Broncos got "lackadaisical" by New England's frequent stretch run, which helped him pick up a first down with a fake handoff.
Miller did not mention Elliss by name, but he believes he could have made the difference on that play, even at age 36.
"That play — and I'm not throwing anybody under the bus — but that play at the end of the game where Drake Maye rolled out for the bootleg and got the first down. I think Von makes that play," Miller said. "I'm not pointing fingers at nobody, I'm just saying me, I'm just saying me. I make that play. And maybe the Broncos get another chance at the ball when Von makes that sack, everybody goes crazy."
Miller obviously doesn't have the speed that he once had, but he still has the smarts and ability to position himself to contain the edge. That doesn't mean he would have necessarily been on the field for that play if he was on the team — and it doesn't guarantee he would have made the play — but the veteran pass rusher thinks he could have.
